Making the Cut

{sears dress (cute option) | f21 jacket | o'neil sandals (similar) | fossil watch | stella & dot bracelet}

If you've been keeping a keen eye on my hair, (because I'm sure you've all just been simply glued to my mane) then you might have noticed that I got it cut.  It was pretty long, and after a less than desirable and kind of pricey haircut, it was looking a little funky.  Luckily my (super, amazing, talented hair dresser of a) sister came to the rescue a few days later when she was here for a visit.  She dyed it the totally rocking ombre you see here and fixed the chop job the best she could, short of gluing hair back on (which, btw, she is totally qualified to do).  Basically, she stopped me from bursting into tears any time I'd catch my reflection in a shiny surface.  Moral of the story: if you have a sister who's an amazing hairdresser but lives 1,000 miles away, it might not be a bad idea to only get your hair cut once or twice a year when you get to see her.  And if you live in Ft. Lauderdale, then definitely make an appointment with Jen at The Factory Salon.

The Illusionist

{sears dress (cute option) | i heart ronson jacket (similar) | steve madden boots | boyfriend's belt | inpink necklace (similar) | f21 & gifted bracelets (similar 1, 2, 3)}

I bet looking at these photos you can't tell that I was so full after going out to lunch that I could barely walk, let alone smile.  And I also bet you can't tell that we only happened to stumble onto this beautiful secret garden because we went poking around behind the back of a Target.  Also on the list of things you might not have guessed - this was the first time I wore this dress and accidentally left the tags on it all day long.

This is why I don't usually give behind the scenes peeks.  I like to maintain the illusion that I actually have it together.

Simple & Easy

{f21 tank (similar) | ON shorts, hat (similar) | o'neil sandals | fossil watch | gifted bracelet (cute option 1, 2)}

Simple and easy was my motto for this outfit.  It was worn for a day spent walking in NYC (28 blocks to and from a bar with a wonderful rooftop patio to be exact) and chilling with a few friends on said rooftop.  Light, flowy, and comfy were on the agenda, and this outfit didn't disappoint -ok, except maybe for a little nub on one of the sandals that irritated my toe.  Is there such a thing as sanding down your shoes (not to be confused with sanding shoes)?  Because that's my solution.  I may be on to something here.

It's Due.

{ON tee | diy skirt | target wedge sneakers | sprout watch | gifted necklace (cute option)}

Happy Tax Day everyone!  As we all know, taxes are due today so I hope you've all filed on time, or at least filed for extensions, and are receiving nice chunks of change back from Uncle Sam.  I don't have much else to report except that it was warm enough for this outfit a few days back.  The weather has since settled back down into its apparent comfort zone of low 50s, but things are turning green, flowers are starting to bloom, and I'm becoming just slightly more hopeful that I'll be able to rock more outfits like this in the very near future.  Spring has just got to show up any day now.  It's due.

Pumped Up Kicks

{top  |  jeans  |  shoes  |  watch  |  f21, target bracelets (similar)  |  inpink ring (cute option)}

Ok, can we talk about these shoes for a minute?  I just met them and I already think I'm in love.  I had been seriously crushing on the leopard Sperrys all summer, but at $75 a pop, and made of leather - which I've been making an effort to move away from (for more info on that click here, but be prepared to cry), I couldn't bring myself to buy them.  I had been searching everywhere for an affordable copy cat pair, and lo and behold, I came across these babies as I was browsing the Payless site.  With a coupon I wound up getting them for only $15, and best of all, no animals were harmed in the making of these kicks.  Expect to see me wearing them with nearly every piece of clothing I own.

p.s. - They also come in stripes, sequins, or plaid and they're all on sale for only $20 right now!  I'm even considering getting a second, identical pair for when I inevitably wear these into the ground.

p.p.s. - Come party with me here today.

Btw, I wasn't compensated in any way for this post; I just love these shoes and want you to know it!

Loosey Goosey

{top: f21  |  jeans: gap  |  shoes: payless (similar)  |  necklace: diy  |  earrings: gift (similar) }

You know that rule of dressing where if it's loose on top, then it should be tight on the bottom, and vice versa?
Well, I ignored that rule when I got dressed yesterday.
I say, go ahead and pair loose with loose!
Because as a wise, quirky, hilarious, bow-tied man-child once said, "I'm a loner, Dottie.  A rebel."

You don't want to get mixed up with a girl like me.

Highlights & Lowlights #7

{tee: target (similar)  //  skirt: h&m  //  sandals: o'neill (similar)  //  necklace: gift  //  earrings: bahamas (made from coconuts!)}

Lowlights:
  • I sat down at a restaurant and as the hostess handed me my menu, she called me ma'am.  Ma'am!  Right to my face.  The nerve.
  • Attending a going away party for a friend and then, due to some confusion, not getting a chance to say goodbye to her.  My sentiments sent over facebook just don't stand up to a good, real life goodbye.
  • Waking up in the middle of the night to what sounded like something be dragged across the attic.  As a borderline insane animal lover, I don't want to call an exterminator.  I may just have to deal with those mysterious sounds from above...
  • Going out to dinner with my neighbor and having him tell me, rather emphatically, that he thinks gay marriage is "just ridiculous."  I haven't really been able to look at him the same way since.

Highlights:
  • Sharing some good conversation and lots of laughs with a bunch of friends I haven't seen in a while.  I love my friends.
  • Getting to meet a retired secret service agent who was there during Reagan's attempted assassination.  Plus, he was also inside the World Trade Center when it was bombed in 1993.  The man lived through an explosion. (!!)  It was an intriguing conversation to say the least.
  • This amazingly warm & sunny weather.  Driving with the sunroof open and David Guetta pumping through the speakers - that's how I roll.
  • Having my hunny bunny nap on the couch next to me while I type...when we really should be grocery shopping and taking outfit photos.  But it's just so much sweeter this way.

Lather, Rinse, Repeat

{top: target  //  skirt: diy from thrifted, cute option 1, 2  //  sandals: pacsun, similar  //  belt  //  earrings: gift, similar  //  watch  //  bracelets: diy, f21}

I can't seem to get enough of stripes & florals lately.  This is the second time in two weeks.
Sure, it may be the white bread of pattern mixing; sort of an effortless no-brainer, but its appeal is undeniable nonetheless.
At least to me it is.  And it seemed to work for the dogs of some friends I visited while wearing this, too, because they were all over me.  Excited to see me?
Nah, they just live for florals and stripes.

Check out where I'm linking up today here.

Highlights & Lowlights

{skirt: diy from thrifted skirt  //  tee, similar boots: old navy  //  belt: jcp}

Some Highlights & Lowlights of my week:

         Lowlights:
  • Getting a total of 20 mosquito bites over the span of 2 days.  Those days were still technically winter.  Winter, people!
  • A very long, very full commuter train passing by as we were having this photo shoot.  "Oh, hello everyone.  Why yes, I'm having my boyfriend take pictures of me in the alley behind a grocery store, surrounded by bins of super stinky trash.  And how are you?"
  • Living in a town where mosquitoes outnumber humans by about 50,000:1.
  • Getting the notice that I have to go to the DMV to renew my license next month.  What?!  Didn't I just do that like 4 years ago?

        Highlights:
  • Hunny Bunny will be picking up advance tickets for Hunger Games today.  We'll get to see it next Tuesday and I. am. so. excited.
  • Having a picnic in the backyard for dinner last night.  Hello, spring!  Welcome back :)
  • Finding brie at the farmer's market for unbelievably low prices.  I seriously don't know how they're even making a profit.
  • Then, having grapes and brie cheese on delicious bread topped with honey and toasted walnuts for dinner not once, but twice in the past week.  Unhealthy, perhaps, but downright delicious.
  • Washing, waxing, dusting, and vacuuming my car over the weekend.  It was a great workout and now she looks all shiny, clean, and pretty.
  • DIY'ing this skirt into a mullet.  It's so much cuter now than how it started out.

What were some of your highlights & lowlights?
