Nuts & Intelligence

{top: gap  |  shorts, bracelet: f21  |  sandals: blowfish  |  watch: sprout  |  scarf: vintage  |  ring: c/o oasap  |  necklace: jenny present (similar) }

Since I've had a stressful week, and since I have very little brain power left, I find it disturbingly difficult to be interesting or witty this afternoon.

Luckily, I can always rely on the fine people who make jokes (really, who comes up with them?) to be clever when I can't.

And so I leave you with this:
Two peanuts walk into a bar.
One's a salted.

Ba-da-bum.
Oh, does it get any better than that?
Have a happy weekend, my friends.

I'm hanging out here today.

Cleaning House

{top: joyce leslie  |  jeans: old navy  |  jacket: target  |  boots: payless (similar)  |  scarf: vintage}

After another day spent cleaning up after someone else's mess (third time this week, folks, which might account for that blank/exhausted look on my face), it was good to look forward to my dinner & movie date night with hunny bunny.

And after wearing a grungy tee shirt, over sized Bermuda shorts (were those ever flattering?), and a bandana over my face (there is a ton of dust, I'm telling you) for the entire afternoon, I also wanted to make sure that I looked nice, since I spent the first half of the day feeling decidedly icky and gross.

Whenever I think easy comfort, I turn to my soft & stretchy jeggings.  Paired with an over sized, cozy top and nice comfy boots, it's the perfect outfit for stuffing my face, dashing from the parking lot to the theater in a (failed) attempt to not get rained on, and sitting in a dark room surrounded by strangers for 2 hours.
Good times.

Find me hanging out here today.

Highlights & Lowlights #5

{jacket: target, similar  //  scarf: h&m, similar  //  watch  //  vintage kerchief: gramma's  //  boots}

Lowlights:
  • We stayed with friends over the weekend, and even though we were five stories up, the people having an outdoor party 2 blocks over played their music so loud, it literally sounded like they were in our bedroom.  Mexican karaoke with a siren in between every song until 4am; why not?
  • The noise was so obnoxious that I actually called the police (I never, ever call the police).
  • The police didn't answer the phone.  Are they allowed to do that?  If it hadn't sent me into fits of laughter I would have been really angry.
  • Rain, rain, & more rain for the past few days.  And being woken up by thunder two nights in a row.  Still not as bad as being woken up by the Mexicans, though.
  • Eradicating all of my blog's customizations with one accidental click.  All this new design stuff you see here?  Wasn't planning on doing it at 10pm on a Wednesday night while trying realllly hard not to fall into a complete panic.

Highlights:
  • Eating french toast for breakfast & Indian food for lunch with friends on Saturday: three of my favorite things.
  • My friend, Fatiha sending me this beautifully shot candid photo (above) that she took while we were on her roof.
  • Trying on an amazing dress of my friend's and falling head over heels in love with it, only to find out she bought it months ago on ebay.  I thought for sure I'd never be able to find one of my own...and then she found it for me (!!!).  It's coming from China, and in a few short weeks I will be debuting it with all of the pomp and circumstance that a gorgeous, white Chinese dress deserves.  Thank you again, Fatiha!!
  • Getting a call from a friend I haven't talked to in a while when I was having a bad day - I couldn't help but laugh with him and it turned my mood right around.
  • The rain is finally lifting and we're going to a baseball game tomorrow.  Let's Go Mets!

    Curiouser and Curiouser

    {sweater: gap, thrifted  //  shorts  //  boots (similar), bracelets: delias  //  vintage kercheif: gramma's  //  watch: swatch (old)}

    There are some days when writing comes naturally to me; the words practically flowing out before I've even had a chance to give them much thought.  Sometimes I even wake up in the morning knowing exactly what to write about, the sentences having formed themselves quite perfectly in my sleep.

    And then there are other days when writer's block gets nice & cozy in my brain, effectively eradicating all creativity, and leaving me staring at a blank screen waiting for an idea to materialize.
    But it rarely does.
    When I have writer's block, I find that the only thing I am able to write about is the fact that I have writer's block.
    So, in a way, could writer's block actually inspire me to write?
    Why, what an oxymoronic paradox we have here....

    California Love

    {top, tank: target  //  shorts: f21  //  shoes: payless  //  earrings: pacsun  //  bandana: boyfriend's}

    I feel so California cool and casual in this outfit.  Of course, I have no idea what real Californians actually wear because my last visit there was when I was 15, and my only other reference of west coast wear is whatever Melissa Rivers has on in Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best.  But with Joan on the screen, it's kind of hard to pay attention to her daughter.  To me she's just a supporting character in what I like to think of as "That Hilarious Show About Joan Rivers".

    But I'm sure Joan would hate this look.
    And if I've learned anything from that show, I know that if Joan Rivers doesn't approve of your outfit, you can bet it's something her Californian daughter would wear.
    Yep, I'm pretty sure I'd look right at home strolling on a beach in Cali.

    Grease is the Word

    {tee: forever21  //  hoodie: kohls  //  jacket: target  //  vintage kerchief: gramma's  //  jeans: gap  //  boots: old navy  //  necklace: UO, gifted  //  earrings: handmade}

    I can't help but feel a bit "Sandra D." in this outfit.  You know, the Sandra D. at the end of the movie who turns all bad ass greaser chick to impress her beloved Danny.  I always wondered how such a sexist theme wormed its way into the movie at the end.  But chauvinistic ideals aside, I feel like a pink lady in this outfit.  I'm even related to a beauty school dropout.
