Oh, this chevron dress.  It's been my favorite thing to remix ever since I bought it (examples here, here, here, here, and oh yeah, here too), but it was recently out of commission for a little while after having a run in with the dryer.  Specifically, one of the straps got caught up in the lint trap and ripped apart. (This seems to be happening quite a bit lately with my strappy stuff - anyone else have a dryer that eats their clothes?) Anyway, after pouting about it for a few weeks, I finally sat down at the sewing machine and Frankenstein'ed the strap back together.  It's not perfect, but with a nice denim vest thrown over, no one is the wiser (except for when I blurt it out all over the internet, of course).

Next on the list of items I ruined -- this vest.  I washed it for the first time, and it came out with white spots on the back, even though my washing machine hasn't seen bleach in months.  If this post has taught us anything, it's that I clearly can't be trusted doing simple household chores.  Anyone who's better at doing laundry have any suggestions for how to remove them?

This is a little belated (does two weeks still count as just a little belated?), but I wanted to share with you the outfit that I wore for my birthday.  It was a warm, sunny day that turned into a crisp cool evening - perfect for hanging around the fire pit, sharing good conversation, having lots of laughs, and roasting a few peeps.  Yes, fire roasted peeps. It's just one of the many splendors of throwing a birthday party the day before Easter. People bring candy which lends itself quite well to being impaled upon sticks and thrust into flame.  And fyi, they're pretty damn delicious.  Who knew?

Mind-spiration

{Click here to enter the Craftsy giveaway}

That title, by the way, is supposed to read mind like Mindy, not mind like Do you mind?. So when I tell you that my outfit was inspired by an episode of The Mindy Project, it make a little more sense.
Anyway.
Thanks to getting rid of cable and being a slacker watching shows on Hulu, I didn't even realize how long ago this episode aired until I saw that my buddy, Sharon, recreated this outfit, too.  (Funnily enough, I came across her post while Googling this photo of Mindy). But I just watched it, so it's new to me.

As soon as I saw this, I fell in love.  And as I filed the idea away (literally - I keep an excel file of outfit ideas because I'm super cool like that), I began to realize that I actually have all of the pieces I need to recreate this look.  So I grabbed an old black & blue striped shirt that I came thisclose to getting rid of when cleaning out my closet last week (see?  Hoarding is a good thing), then grabbed an even older grey hoodie and topped it with a vest.   I wanted to add my one and only sparkly statement necklace as seen here, but just could not find it anywhere.  Incidentally, my favorite lipstick - a 69¢ tube of Wet n Wild - has also gone missing.  I searched for both for a good half hour, and came up empty handed, then had to find acceptable substitutes.  And this is why I am perpetually late showing up to my friends' houses. (Sorry Mike & Tunde!)

Walk of Shame

{sweater (on sale for $6!) | DIY vest | jeans | similar booties | hat, c/o Our World Boutique | necklace, c/o Onecklace}

Fun fact about this outfit - it was only half planned.  I spent the night at a friend's house and completely neglected to bring an alternate pair of shoes. After wearing these booties with tights and a dress the previous night, I was greeted the next morning with the realization that this was the only proper footwear I had with me. Feeling slightly embarrassed for the oversight, not to mention a bit ridiculous wearing them with this otherwise casual outfit, I literally did a walk of shame.

Lesson learned.  There is now a new addition to the ever-present clutter in my car: an emergency pair of sneakers.  Hopefully next time this happens I won't have taken the bus.
