Speckled Kaleidoscope

{delias dress | f21 jacket | kamik rainboots | fossil watch | stella & dot bracelet | claire's earrings}

Here's another case of the mysteriously shrinking dress.  This time in a colorful, speckled, kaleidoscope pattern.  I don't know what's happening here; either I'm still growing or there is something seriously funky happening in my closet.  Whatever it is, my hemlines seem to be creeping higher lately.  Which is fine as long as I remain standing; it's when I sit that things start to get a little iffy.

Hot Flash

{f21 top (crazy similar!) & shorts | kamik boots | fossil watch | asos socks (similar) | boyfriend's belt}

You know what I love more than a pretty, cream & gold polka dotted shirt?  Getting to wear it during summer!  After enduring July's month long hot flash of 90+ degree days with >75% humidity, August seems to have evened out a little bit with some much needed rain and cooler days & evenings.  Hence, the much-awaited wearing of the long sleeved shirt.  It's been a month in the making.

Finding Nemo

{target jacket & leggings | alloy sweater (similar) | h&m scarf (similar) | kamik boots | f21 ring | diy turban}

This weekend we were hit with Snowstorm Nemo (snow storms are getting names now? after Disney characters?  That's a thing?).  Anyway, the snow that got dumped on us only left my boyfriend and me trapped inside on Saturday, where we took turns suggesting things to do, like cooking lasagna cupcakes (my idea), drinking beer (his idea), putting on minty facial masks (my idea), and watching Total Recall (his idea).  Luckily by Sunday it was warm enough to emerge from the apartment to head straight to Target to snap up some Prabal Gurung pieces (more on those soon).

Yeah, my outfit is pretty basic, and in fact I just realized I've already worn it.  But some days just lend themselves to oversized sweaters, leggings, a 1920s-esque turban, and kicking snow at your boyfriend until he gently reminds you that it is your own beloved camera that you're showering in rapidly melting flakes.

I'm joining the party.

In Search of Sunshine

{dress: pacsun (similar)  |  cardi: joyce leslie  |  scarf: gift  |  socks, boots: target  |  earrings: c/o sahara jewelry}

Yesterday and this morning have been pretty drab and rainy.  In fact, we even braved a mini rain storm for this photo shoot.  Well, at least I did.  Hunny bunny stood under the safety of a picnic shelter with the pretense of keeping the camera dry.  A likely story.

And what dreary day couldn't use a little extra sunshine?
The sweet & stylish Rachel, who blogs over at Rachel the Hat presented me with the Sunshine Award.  Ok, so maybe she gave it to me a week (or two) ago, but isn't this just the perfect time for it?  I thought so....

 rules:
answer 10 questions below
pass on to 5 bloggers who brighten my day

favorite color:  Pretty much all shades of blue.  But I have soft spots for grey, cream, taupe, and coral - especially in clothing.

favorite number:  16.  That one's my favorite, but all even numbers just feel cozy to me.  That's not strange.

favorite animal:  Dogs.  They're just so much fun.  I could hang out with a dog all day.

favorite non-alcoholic drink:  Well, I normally am boring and just drink water, but if I'm feeling really indulgent (and it's around Christmastime) I love hot almond.  It involves melted white chocolate, almond milk, and is really creamy and delicious.  Recipe coming soon....

twitter or facebook:  Oh, don't make me choose.

what is your passion:  Animal rights.  It's crazy how many terrible atrocities happen right here in the US, yet most people are unaware (factory farming, animal testing, circuses, fur, etc.)  For more info, click here.  On a lighter note, I also really love clothing and blogging!

receiving or giving:  The very diplomatic answer here is both.  But the truth really is that I enjoy giving gifts just as much as I love receiving them.

favorite pattern:  There are lots to choose from, but lately I've had a major thing for ikat, stripes, and anything aztec/tribal/navajo.

favorite day of the week: Probably Saturday.  It just feels the best - can sleep in late, can stay up late.  Some of the best days of my life have taken place on Saturdays (or on vacation, where every day feels like a Saturday!)

favorite flower: Hands down, cherry blossoms.  And dandelions when they're all fluffy and white.  Technically weeds, they are just about the prettiest.  Next to cherry blossoms, that is.

And now I pass the award on to these lovely ladies, who always know how to brighten my day.

Sprockets

{jacket & rain boots: target  //  sweater & jeggings: old navy  //  watch: sprout}

I can't help but feel just a little bit Sprockets in this outfit.  After all, I am part German.  These types of ensembles are probably genetically embedded in my DNA and are bound to crop up every so often, whether I'm conscious of it or not.
Das ist gut, nein?

In other news, we took these photos at the theater while waiting for Arthur Christmas to start.
It was wonderfully imaginative, completely adorable, and totally funny.
All the kids in the theater cheered when it was over.  I would have joined them if I wasn't so busy trying not to look like I was crying at the perfectly sweet ending.
Just do yourself a favor and go see it now.

All Aboard

{sweater: h&m  //  scarf: mandee  //  rain boots & tank: target  //  jeans: limited}

Ok, so yesterday may not have been the best photo shoot we've had.  It was grey all day with the threat of rain, and the rapidly approaching dusk certainly didn't help.  And neither did the wind.  Not only did it make my bangs look funny (which was an affront in and of itself), but it was strong enough to make hunny bunny's hands unsteady with the camera, resulting in that highly annoying slight blurring of the photos.  Let's just say the elements were not working in our favor last night.
Clearly Mother Nature has never kept a style blog.
Sheesh.
