Monochrome Mullet

{ON sweater (similar) & shorts | payless shoes (total lookalike) | dogeared necklace | kohls sunnies (similar) | gifted lucky brand rings}

This outfit is like a backwards mullet: long up top and short on the bottom.  Incidentally, it's also a bit like an aging mullet: grey roots ombre-ing gracefully into white.  And yeah, I just used the words graceful and mullet in the same sentence.  Who am I?

What to Wear to a BBQ in the Rain & a Giveaway

{ON sweater (similar), hat (similar) | f21 shorts | kamik boots | groopdealz bracelets (1, 2) | dogeared necklace}

Yup.  This hat.  This lovely little hat.  I'm wearing it again because it's my new favorite thing, and it seems to add that extra oomph that going bare-headed just can't compete with.

I wore this to a BBQ on Saturday.  It was warm, really humid, and raining.  Perfect conditions for an outdoor party, don't you think?  Luckily the hostesses have a pop-up canopy and a patio, so we kept relatively dry while chilling outside all evening, and my boots came in extra handy for running around the wet yard with the dogs from time to time.  It just isn't a party until someone rubs a dog's belly I always say.

So, I had really wanted to rock some glasses with this look (because doesn't the side braid/fedora combo just scream for nerd glasses?)  However,  my current glasses are just for occasional wear like driving or when I'm in the nosebleed section at a baseball game (this happens often).  Basically, they're not made to be worn all day long.  And just as I was thinking that I should really get a pair of Rx-free lenses in a geek-chic style (because glasses aren't just for vision correction, they're an accessory too!), my dreams are answered because Firmoo launched their "first pair free" program where new customers can choose a pair of glasses for free (you just pay for shipping).  They've just stocked their shop with lots of new arrivals and have so many great styles.  These are my fave.
Right now, Firmoo is generously offering a totally free pair of glasses (including +1.50 single vision lenses plus free shipping) to one lucky winner.  All you have to do to enter is follow me on bloglovin', twitter, or facebook (your choice - you only have to do one, but I'll send you big, virtual hugs if you follow all three) and then visit Firmoo to scope out which pair of glasses (from this selection) you'll choose if you win.

Leave a comment telling me how you follow, and with what username, and which Firmoo glasses you like best, as well as your email address.  That's all!  Good luck!

The Fine Print: Contest is open to residents of US & Canada, as well as everyone residing in these countries.  Please be sure to click the link to ensure that Firmoo ships to your country of residence before entering the contest.  Contest is open until May 31 and winner will be contacted shortly after.  Winner must respond within 48 hours, otherwise a new winner will be chosen.

The Luck of the Oxfords

{thrifted UO sweater | target jeans (similar) & shoes (cute option) | fossil watch | UO necklace & coat (similar)}

On Sunday we still had some decent weather going (which as you know by now means naked ankles - nankles?), and hunny bunny and I were heading out to meet up with some friends for some lunch and a little estate sale shopping.  It was a casual and comfortable kind of day.  Because when you're rooting through an accumulation of someone's lifetime possessions, it is of the utmost importance to wear a sensible shoe.

And in case you're wondering, I walked away with a lacy curtain that will be used in some upcoming diy projects, a basketful of clothespins (more diy projects), a cheese slicer (still in its original packaging), a never-been-used-looking round cake pan, and an adorable vintage plastic deer tchotchke.  All for a whopping $4.  Also a little while back I thrifted this Urban Outfitters sweater for a grand total of $2.50.  I'm telling you, I am killing it in the "crap someone didn't want to keep" department.  It must have been the work of those lucky, sensible shoes.

Finding Nemo

{target jacket & leggings | alloy sweater (similar) | h&m scarf (similar) | kamik boots | f21 ring | diy turban}

This weekend we were hit with Snowstorm Nemo (snow storms are getting names now? after Disney characters?  That's a thing?).  Anyway, the snow that got dumped on us only left my boyfriend and me trapped inside on Saturday, where we took turns suggesting things to do, like cooking lasagna cupcakes (my idea), drinking beer (his idea), putting on minty facial masks (my idea), and watching Total Recall (his idea).  Luckily by Sunday it was warm enough to emerge from the apartment to head straight to Target to snap up some Prabal Gurung pieces (more on those soon).

Yeah, my outfit is pretty basic, and in fact I just realized I've already worn it.  But some days just lend themselves to oversized sweaters, leggings, a 1920s-esque turban, and kicking snow at your boyfriend until he gently reminds you that it is your own beloved camera that you're showering in rapidly melting flakes.

Bare Naked Ankles

{h&m sweater (similar) | limited jeans | aldo booties (back in stock & on sale!) | f21 necklace}

Wednesday's sunny, ankle-baring weather very much felt like a gift.  Like the kind of gift that if you got it in summer you'd ask for the receipt so you can run and return it because your day would be an insufferable, freezing 40 degrees, but if you got it yesterday you'd rejoice because your whole day got to be a sunny, toasty 40 degrees.  It's all about perception, really.  That and the ability to trade out legwarmers & knee highs for short ankle socks at least once during winter.

In a Frozen State

{h&m shorts & sweater (similar) | f21 hat | payless tights | delias boots (crazy similar) | kohls bracelet (similar) & necklace}

Please excuse my pursed lip, sour lemon expression in these photos.  I think my face just froze like that when I took off my coat.  I was just. so. cold.  I was trying really hard not to be; I was thinking warm thoughts, concentrating on not shivering, and I mean, I was even wearing a leopard print hat.  If the presence of faux leopard can't keep me toasty, I don't know what can.  But when living in NJ, sometimes you just have to grin and bear it....or in my case grimace, groan, grumble, and grouse....that's just as good, right?

On another note, if you haven't already signed up for Crowdtap, then you are just plain cray cray.  Answer some questions and then you can get free stuff, like an Old Navy dress.  Amongst other free stuff I've received?  A bikini, workout clothes, a whole party pack of bbq seasonings, and amazon gift cards.  Seriously, what are you waiting for?  Click here to sign up.
(This portion was in no way sponsored by Crowdtap.  I am a member and get perks when I refer others to sign up.  But so does everyone else.)

Comfy, Happy, Cozy

{thrifted UO sweater (similar)  |  no nonsense leggings, c/o  |  steve madden boots  |  ON scarf (similar)}

You might recognize these photos from my No nonsense review.  But I liked this outfit so much that I just had to give it a proper, dedicated outfit post (which means you'll also be seeing the outfit featuring the tights, too).  This outfit accompanied me on a date with my boyfriend, and got to witness us discovering a new Indian restaurant that had some of the most delicious food I've ever tasted.  It walked around with us while we window shopped and conversed, and my sweater even got to pay a visit to her mother ship (Urban Outfitters).  It was a comfy, cozy, happy day for us all.

Psychic

{thrifted UO sweater (similar)  |  target jeans  |  payless shoes (now 50% off!)  |  f21 necklace}

I'm just popping in for a quick post before I head out for errands and other assorted bits of excitement.  I wore this outfit last week, back when it was still balmy and I could pretend that winter wasn't just around the corner.  This week has found me in rain gear nearly every day, with temperatures dropping down as low as the 40s.  Not quite arctic temps yet, but I can tell it's a chilly premonition of things to come.  Imagine that, me, a weather-clairvoyant.  For my next divination I predict that we'll encounter spring after winter.  I'm 99.999% sure.  You can quote me on that.

Meet Joyce

Hi everyone! I'm Joyce from Joyful Outfits and I am so excited to be guest blogging here today while Kym is on a road trip :) So this is what I would wear on a road trip. When I am traveling, I always like wearing comfy clothes and shoes.  ALWAYS.  Thus, the loose top, loose sweater vest, and the flat shoes.  And just to make this outfit a bit more fun, I decided to also wear the necklace.

This is Not Summer

{sweater: gap  |  jeans: target  |  shoes: payless (similar 1, 2)  |  watch: sprout  |  belt: steve madden}

Well, yes, technically it isn't summer.  It's still spring until June 20, but we all know the official beginning of the summer season starts Memorial Day weekend.  And when 90 degree temperatures coincide with the holiday, it seems as if Mother Nature's saying she agrees with our unwritten rule and is happy to oblige.

But yesterday was a different story.  I was cold.  I stared longingly at the thermostat, torn between flipping the little switch that would turn on the heat, and feeling ridiculous even considering using heat in June.  (Ridiculous won, by the way.  I mean, it's June!)  Instead, I tried to remember how to dress for 60 degree weather, cozied up in a sweater, grabbed a scarf just in case, and was out the door.

Then quickly back in the door to shut all the windows I had forgotten were open, which were most likely to blame for my polar-like predicament.  Being cold makes you do crazy things, I tell ya.
