The weather.  Drinking a daily green smoothie.  My dramatically lower cholesterol levels, most likely a direct result of said daily green smoothie.

These are all topics I jotted down in an attempt to brainstorm something to write about, then immediately rejected on the grounds that they are all fairly boring to discuss.  And still, for lack of a better idea, they remain on the screen.  Since this post is quickly becoming a conglomeration of random thoughts, I'll throw this out there, too.  Today my boyfriend was supremely impressed when I knew that the German name Wilhelm translates to Guillaume in French.  Since he speaks both languages fluently, and my French is approximately at the level of a 4 year old, while my German is limited to about five words, I'm always pretty surprised when I know something he doesn't.  Like when I bought these jeans two years ago - he thought they were a terrible idea, but I knew better.  I knew red skinnies would remain a thing for a while, and look who was right about that, too.

Deleted

Yesterday I did what I feared I would someday do.  I accidentally deleted the outfit photos I had taken over the weekend.  Somewhere between transferring them from the camera to the computer they disappeared, and without checking, I deleted them from my camera.  As soon as my boyfriend noticed me staring at my laptop,  uncomprehending and bewildered, he quickly took over to try to retrieve them.  No luck.  They're gone.  As my dad likes to say, I always knew this day would come.  I just didn't think it would be today.  Ha.

Since I deleted all the photos of the outfit I wanted to show you, I thought instead I'd post some outfits that I never planned to show you (and actually should have been deleted).  They didn't make it to the blog for a number of reasons - the outfit didn't look as good as I thought or the photos turned out wonky.  Whatever was the reason, I was content to keep them safely tucked away on my hard drive.  But due to my airhead moment, you now get to take a peek into what you were never supposed to see.  Enjoy!

Mixed Media & a Giveaway

{h&m jacket | ON vest (similar) | target sweater (similar) & shoes | UO jeans | handmade hat | diy necklace}

I decided to try something a little different for this outfit.  I've been seeing a lot of what I've dubbed "mixed media" jackets around.  You know the ones - jacket part is one material, the sleeves are another.  Since I haven't owned anything like that since I was 13 (oh, I was so cool - denim jacket with leather sleeves AND matching jeans with leather chaps on the front), I decided to make my own.  It's simple, really.  Throw on a jacket, add a vest. Bam. Done.  I still can hardly believe it's back in style.  If only I'd had the foresight to hold on to an item I bought in my tweendom from a store called, of all things, The Circus (really).

And now, on to the giveaway.
So, I have a $30 gift card to JunieBlake that I'm not going to use (please note that the gift card is good for 2 more weeks; it expires on April 11th).  Since I don't want it to go to waste, I thought I'd hold a quick, flash giveaway so one of you can snap it up!  Entries are really easy, but you'll need to act quickly because the giveaway will only last through the weekend!  It starts now and ends at 12am Monday, April 1st.  Good luck!

Pete & Repeat

Just a few days left to enter the $80 MsDressy giveaway!

{delias sweater (tres old) | f21 top (so similar!) | UO jeans | payless boots (crazy similar) | inpink ring}

So, you could say that I've been mildly obsessed with my red jeans and gold polka dot top lately; specifically, wearing them together.  I'm loving this combo so much that I when I reached for this outfit a few days ago, I didn't even realize that I wore almost the same exact outfit just a few days before.  So, after meeting Pete last week, please meet his nearly identical brother, Repeat.  (Yeah, my outfits are named after guys & commonly used words, but only when it suits my post title).

Accessory Anomaly

{target blazer | f21 blouse | UO jeans | steve madden boots | h&m scarf (old) | vintage necklace (similar)}

Would you believe me if I told you I got a wind machine over the weekend?  Well, I did one better.  I got Mother Nature's wind machine - aka...uh, wind.  When it wasn't giving me hair-blown-in-face-mustache (which my boyfriend was all too happy to point out each and every time it happened), or making me shiver down to the very core of my soul, we actually manged to get a few shots that made it seem as if my crazy, windblown hair was intentional.

I inherited this amazing vintage necklace from my Gramma a couple years ago.  I love it, but it never seemed to go with anything I wore - it always gave the outfits a way-too-fancy vibe (and if you know me, you know I am anything but).  But when I put this outfit on, I instinctively reached for it, knowing full well that gold polka dots mixed with pearls and rhinestones is practically a recipe for fancy.  Yet somehow, the combination reads more laid back than lavish.  I cannot explain the anomalies of nature, people; I just wear them.

Highlights & Lowlights #9

{top: marshalls  |  jeans: UO  |  shoes: target (similar) }

Lowlights:
  • You know those times when it's early in the morning, and you're busy daydreaming about your plans for the day so you take the water out of the fridge for a drink but pour it into your cereal instead?  Yeah.  That happened.  (I am ashamed to admit that I still ate the cereal.)
  • Hunny bunny accidentally used my toothbrush - again.  I know it's confusing because he somehow got stuck with the pink one; but really.  Apparently my green toothbrush is throwing off a much more masculine vibe.
  • Painstakingly resizing photos one by one just to make a 5 second gif (see below) because I'm too paranoid to download a bulk resizer to my hard drive and save myself 3 hours.
  • Realizing 32 photos in that I'm resizing the wrong files! Then after resizing 13 of the correct ones, finding a gif maker that doesn't require me to resize the photos at all!  Gah!

Highlights:
  • Talking on the phone with my brother for close to 3 hours.  We live about 1200 miles apart and don't get to see each other very often.  So, when we start gossiping....well, apparently we can go on for much longer than is considered normal.
  • Scoring a free bikini from Old Navy.  Yep, 100% totally, completely, no-strings-attached (unless you count the ones on the swimsuit) free!  Interested?  I thought so.
  • This clip.  It's silly and stupid and I can't get enough of it...maybe.
  • Having a lovely date night with hunny bunny that included going out for Indian food, stopping on the way home to shoot a succession of funny photos to make the animation below, and cuddling up on the couch to watch a movie together.

    Sweater Weather

    {sweater: old navy  //  chambray button up  //  jeans  //  boots: payless, similar  //  bracelets: f21, diy  //  necklace: gramma's, similar}

    I wore this over the weekend to go on a bar hopping date with hunny bunny.  It was a little chilly and I knew I'd need something warm, comfortable, and preferably slightly expandable since beer & bar fare tend to fill my stomach up pretty quickly.  Enter these wonderfully stretchy jeggings, cozy chambray & sweater combo, and nice, flat boots perfect for maneuvering from bar to bar.

    On the way to our date, we stumbled onto this lovely road in our town that I had never seen before.  It had all of one house for about a mile in either direction, which in notoriously over-populated North NJ is pretty darn rare.
    I'm thinking lots of bike rides up and down this quaint little road.  Hopefully the people living in that house won't mind seeing me ride by with my hands in the air, yelling "wheeeee!!!" several times a week.

    That time I looked like Zooey Deschanel

    {top, jacket: target  //  jeans  //  shoes: spring, similar  //  bracelets: f21, similar #1, #2  //  scarf: diy}

    Yesterday I finally went to renew my license at the DMV.  I was expecting the usual - waiting, annoyance, waiting, getting frustrated, and waiting.  So imagine my surprise when after waiting only 45 minutes (which to be honest, did kind of feel like an eternity because I forgot to bring a book and there's only so long I can amuse myself counting mullets), I got to the desk and both the girl taking my photo and the guy next to her told me I look like Zooey Deschanel.
    This is especially cool because she's sort of  my girl crush and the only celebrity that I actually do want to look like.
    {Personally, I don't really see it.  But if putting big waves in my hair (which I will then come home, try to "fix", wind up ruining, and salvage by putting my hair up before leaving the house again), winging out my eyeliner, and using red lip stain does the trick, then I'll take it.}
    I tried to play it cool, as if I get that all the time.  But I think my response went something more like:
    "Oh my God!  Thank you!" (Awkwardly give the guy a high five). "That's the nicest thing I've heard all day!  Awesome!  Thanks!"
    Smooooth....

    By the way, somewhere in here they saw Zooey.
    (Now that I've been compared to her, I feel we should be on a first name basis.)

    Come party with me today here.

    Windy City

    {cardi, top: old navy  //  jeans: UO  //  shoes: target  //  belt: steve madden}

    As almost any girl can tell you, wind is the nemesis of carefully coiffed bangs.  As perfect as they may look in my calm, breeze-free bathroom, once I step out and that wind gusts up, all bets are off.

    On the upside, my hair was still a little wet when I left the house.  After only 10 minutes of taking photos, it was completely dry.  So what if my damp hair, combined with the wind chill, made a 45 degree day feel like 31?  I harnessed the power of earth's natural blow dryer.  How's that for eco-conscious?

    High Hopes

    {sweater: old navy  //  jeans: UO  //  shoes: target  //  watch: sprout}

    First and foremost I want to thank everyone who sent good wishes my way yesterday - your words truly mean so much.

    Last night we received some encouraging news about my boyfriend's sister.  The doctors have deemed the tumor operable and they suspect that it may have attached itself to her skull instead of her brain (this is a very positive thing).
    Of course, we won't know for sure until the operation, which is scheduled for Friday.  Until then she's been released from the hospital and is able to go home to spend time with family.

    Hunny bunny and I still think about her constantly and have taken to reminding each other how healthy and strong-willed she is.
    We have very high hopes that she's going to be ok.
