I think I probably fall into the .00001% of women who have never owned (or even tried on) a shirt dress.  That is, until this one.  I honestly don't know what I was waiting for.  I see limitless remixing possibilities: colored tights, booties, heels, flats, sneakers, topped with a sweater or jacket, layered under a cardigan, worn over a tee, paired with a vest, or mixed with a multitude of different scarves.  Bring on the cool weather.  My shirt dress and I are ready to face it.

Baby Brunch Best

I wore this to a baby shower over the weekend, and despite everything I've heard about the horror that is attending one, I had a really excellent time.  The party was held at a trendy restaurant (that was closed to the public just for us) and included a tasty brunch, a unisex guest list, and some hilarious conversation with my friends & table mates.

In the last 10 minutes before leaving the house, I was scrambling to change out of my lightweight chiffon dress that I realized was not working the moment I stepped out into the still cold weather.  In what might have been my fastest sartorial decision to date, I put this little number together.  I actually can't believe I hadn't worn it until now.  I've thought about it so many times, and really, floral + denim?  It just makes sense (in a totally illogical, only because I'm a style blogger kinda way).

Old Faithful

Time and time again I find myself reaching for the same two pieces in my closet: this denim button up and these black skinny jeans.  I'd say that they are probably two of the biggest workhorses of my entire wardrobe, seeing as how I wear them at least 3-4 times a week, and in seemingly endless ways.  And yeah, that probably means I should be laundering them more often than I do, or being gentler on them than I am.  Ok, let's just say it - there are a lot of things I should be doing that I'm not.  Like starting my taxes.  Or cleaning the bathroom.  Or eating enough veggies, or exercising on a daily basis.  (Trust me, this list could probably go on for an embarrasingly long time).  

Basically, I'm pretty thankful for the fact that these articles of clothing are holding up as well as they are.  It allows me to cross a few of my "should do's" off my list of "probably won't do anyway."

All Business

I've got a bone to pick with Mr. Groundhog.  He promised an early spring, but winter's still got us in its icy grip.  The rat straight up lied.  Even though we're now in March, we're still getting temperatures that are dipping below freezing.  At the rate this season's going, I'll be surprised if spring even starts on March 20.  In fact, taking these photos was one of the coldest moments I spent outside all season.  I could think of nothing but finishing and getting back inside.  With the temperature hovering around 25 degrees with lots of obnoxious wind, there was no time for messing around.  It was all business for those 4 1/2 minutes we spent shooting these.

The White Stuff

Lately the weather seems to be having an identity crisis.  One day it's chilly and rainy, the next it's warm and humid.  Friday was the latter.  Not one to miss an opportunity to bust out some white after Labor Day (proof of previous transgressions here & here), I shimmied into my shorts, threw on my new denim top that's already been worn more times than it's even been washed, put on my new favorite pair of shoes, and headed out to a crowded bar where not one of my friends noticed a single thing I was wearing.  But that's ok because I got away with wearing shorts in October.  Forget wearing white until Labor Day; I wear white until Columbus Day!

Apple Pie > Apple Picking

On Saturday, while celebrating Fatiha's birthday, we made plans to go apple picking the next day.  But just as we were ready to head out on Sunday afternoon, it began intermittently storming.  Add to that the fact that most farms we found declared that due to our warmer-than-normal spring and summer, the apple picking season ended early, and it looked like our apple picking aspirations were going nowhere fast.

So instead we decided to meet at an artsy cafe where each group of diners gets its own small cave to sit in, and had lunch and apple pie instead.  And it made me realize something: faced with the decision between doing manual labor to harvest my own apples versus sitting around chatting with friends while someone serves me pie, well, let's just say I'm glad it rained on Sunday.
