Tree Hugger

Click here for the OASAP giveaway!  Hurry, it ends soon!

^please pardon my uber-chic camera bag there^

{ON cardi (old) | whoop tee (giveaway win; designed by Tara) | target maxi (similar) | blowfish sandals | fossil watch | target, f21 bracelets (similar 1, 2, 3)}

Since today is Arbor Day (go hug a tree, seriously, it'll make you smile.  Or better yet, plant a few!), it only seems fitting that today's photos were taken during a walk through a local park's cherry blossom festival a few days ago.  The weather predicted a sunny 70 degree day, hence the skirt & sandals.  In actuality it was 55 degrees and cloudy with 13mph winds that made me want to walk around shrouded in a blanket.  But alas, cherry blossoms are fleeting and we were not about to let some wildly inaccurate weatherman stop us from enjoying them.

And just for the sake of Arbor Day:
Aren't they just gorgeous??

...likes to travel

{ny&co top  |  ON shorts (similar -on sale!) & cardi  |  shoes  |  vintage scarf (2 sewn together)}

Right now I'm currently in a car, road tripping down to Hilton Head Island, SC for a week of relaxing, biking, hiking, and chilling on the beach.  Since it's a 14 hour trip (each way), I want to make sure to stay comfy, but since we're stopping in D.C. along the way, I also want to look presentable for our forefathers.  And, you know, for all the living people there, too.  Comfortable clothes and flats are essential, and although it'll be 90 degrees, I'm prepared to bundle up since someone (looking at you, boyfriend) prefers arctic temperatures inside the car.

While I'm gone, I've asked some friends to show us all what they'd wear on a road trip.  I hope you enjoySee next week!

No Pain, No Gain

{dress: target, cute alternative  //  shoes: target, similar  //  cardi  //  belt  //  necklace: delias  //  earrings: handmade}

Have your muscles ever been so sore that the pain actually wakes you up in the middle of the night?
Well, I got to experience this oh-so-lovely of phenomenons last night.
There is no way to describe it other than that it feels as if my muscles are literally broken (which I guess they actually are; go figure).
Maybe popping in a P90X dvd after ignoring it for over a year and expecting to keep up with the amount of reps I was able to do when I was on the program might have been a little optimistic.
Either way, I can hardly straighten my right arm.  And it's times like these I'm glad to be a lefty.
(The times when I'm trying to use normal scissors or a non-wireless mouse - not so much).

And, oh yes, my outfit.  It's just something I threw on to go for a picnic at a nearby lake.
But really, I just wanted to give you something to look at while I complain about how I can't recover from a workout like I used to.

Today I'm linking up here.

Welcome to NY

{cardi: old navy  //  sweater: gap  //  jeans: limited  //  sneakers: keds  //  scarf: target}

This is one of the outfits I wore on vacation.  Here we are at New York New York.
It was so pretty, complete with replicas of the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, the Chrysler Building, and the Brooklyn Bridge.  Though, I have to say it was a bit inaccurate - the bathrooms were clean, the bushes outside smelled like rosemary, and the people were way too friendly.
It's like the kind of New York that New York wishes it could be.

Las Vegas Suitcase

Las Vegas Suitcase
This is what's in my suitcase, more or less.

For this vacation I was determined to get away with only a carry on, something that I would have scoffed at and called impossible for a 7 day vacation mere months ago.
It wasn't as easy as packing normally is, but then again, I normally just pull pretty things out of the closet and throw them into the suitcase without much thought as to whether I'll actually be able to create stylish outfits with them (I usually can't, and I usually exceed the airline's luggage weight limit, too).
This time I spent a little longer in the planning phase, complete with an excel spreadsheet mapping out all of the remixing possibilities.  (I'm a nerd).
But I think it paid off.
I may not look terribly flashy or colorful, but I will look put-together.  Besides, I'm in Vegas, baby!  It has enough sparkle for the both of us.

p.s. - this is a pre-scheduled post because I will be away until Sunday.  I'll answer comments when I get back!

New Kid on the {Color} Block

{cardi & long sleeve tee: old navy  //  jeans: limited  //  boots: steve madden intyce  //  scarf: ??}

This outfit was my very first (and currently only) foray into color blocking.  And it happened purely by accident.
It was one of those outfits that I actually didn't give much thought to.  I put on the long sleeve waffle knit tee because I was cold.  And I felt like wearing a pretty, bright color so I chose the cardi.
I forced myself to put the white scarf on because, although I've had it for years, I could never get past feeling like Salieri  when wearing it.  These are the repercussions of watching Amadeus repeatedly as a child.
Well, that and being a 9 year old with a crush on Mozart.
So, who wore it better, Salieri or me?
(It's a tough call.)

Stranded

{cardi: old navy  //  tee & shoes: target  //  shorts: forever21  //  belt: thrifted  //  sunnies: ??  //  necklace: UO}

We went to our friends' loft in Queens for a party, and considered ourselves lucky that someone was leaving the building as we arrived and let us in.  We thought we'd surprise our friends by walking up the five flights of stairs to their place instead of calling them to bring down the freight elevator for us.  Little did we know that they were in Manhattan at an emergency vet appointment for their cat.
So there we were, inside the building but locked out of the apartment.
Luckily the weather was gorgeous, the roof door was unlocked, and we had beer and a camera.
Total photo shoot opportunity.
