Later, Alligator...

Oh, Las Vegas. My old friend. I'll be seeing you soon. And Grand Canyon, this time it won't be too cold and snowy to hike you. In case you haven't guessed, I'm leaving for a little jaunt to Nevada. Again. Because apparently two vacations, a total of 14 days spent there, and many many visits to all-you-can-eat buffets were not enough. What can I say; I just love Paris, New York, and Italy this time of year.

.::. See you in a little while! .::.

Favorite Fashion Friday #68

 photo FavoriteFashionFridaylogo_zpsf66ade9e.jpg

I love me some affordable clothes, especially the ones that look chic and expensive. Check out this week's favorite look from Heather at Thrift Storie$.  Her entire outfit is thrifted.  I mean, wow.  Somebody knows her way around a Goodwill.

Favorite Fashion Friday #67

 photo FavoriteFashionFridaylogo_zpsf66ade9e.jpg

My favorite look this week comes from Jenna at Sincerely Jenna Marie.  I love a good, structured blazer, especially if it's full of pretty fall colors.  Plus, I can't resist a lacy textured top.  And have you checked out those heels??  I'm smitten.

Kurt Cobain Is My Homeboy

dress: exact (on sale!)
flannel: (old) target | similar
shoes: payless | so similar
necklace: gifted | pretty option 1, 2
watch: exact
ring: Brooklyn street artist | similar

______________________________________

So, turns out my prediction about not needing the AC until next year was proven wrong pretty much immediately. Like, the next day kind of immediately. The last two days have been just great - 75º and muggy. And I'm not even being sarcastic. Sure, during the summer 75º and humid is cause for complaint, but in the middle of October, 75º and humid (and running the air conditioner!) means I couldn't be happier to be wrong.

So in honor of yesterday's warm weather I wore this ridiculously comfortable tank dress, and because I was feeling a little 90s grunge, I tied a flannel around the waist to cinch it in. It's a nod to warm weather, a nod to the fact that it's still October and I'll most likely get chilly later, and a nod to Kurt Cobain, whose style pretty much dictated what I wore for the greater portion of the 90s (and apparently still does even 20 years later).

I like to party.

Seasonal Firsts & Tour Through Blogland

vest: exact
jeans: exact
jacket: f21 | option
sweater: target | cute option
necklace: gift | similar 1, 2
boots: (old) Franco Sarto | so similar
sunnies: old | way cooler option
scarf: (old) h&m

___________________________________

Well, I think I can officially admit that summer's over. Don't get me wrong, we're still having some sunny sweater-free days, but for the most part I probably won't need to use the air conditioner again until next May. As I may have mentioned once or twice, I fall in the miniscule percentile of people whose favorite season is not autumn. I'm more of a bask-in-the-sun, happy-not-to-have-to-bring-a-coat type of girl. But on this chilly day that required a jacket, vest, and scarf, I actually did a little happy dance when I put my boots on for the first time this season. And then I got a pumpkin spice latte, second of the season. (Unlike the boots, I didn't wait around for cool weather to get started on that autumn ritual).

In other news, last week Jessica from Jeans and a Teacup invited me to participate in a "Tour Through Blogland," where I answer some questions, and then introduce you to two of my favorite blogs.

1) What am I working on?

A post on how to wear jogger pants 3 ways. Because, let's face it, they're not the easiest to style. Are they pajamas? Are they regular pants? (In my case, I have embraced them as both).

2) How does my work differ from others in it's genre?

I'm not sure my work differs a whole lot (girl gets dressed, girl takes outfit photos, girl remixes inexpensive items from her closet, girl talks about herself). You know, standard blogger stuff.

3) Why do I write?

Because I'm narcissistic and self-centered, of course, and getting compliments from complete strangers boosts my ego. Why else? But in all seriousness, I write because I love to do it! And I'm constantly amazed that I do. In school, when forced to write essays and papers, I thought I hated writing. Turns out I just hadn't found my voice yet, and now that I have, I can barely shut it up!

4) How does my writing/creating process work?

It's fairly simple, really. Sometimes I have a clear idea of what I want to write about before I begin, but more often than not I just open a new post, let my fingers start tapping away, and see where it takes me. After I finish I'll go back and make sure there's at least one sarcastic or self-deprecating comment in there. Bonus if I can work in both. Extra bonus if I make a bad pun. And now you know my secret formula for writing a brilliant post.

And now, on to the Tour. First up is Abby. We discovered each others' blogs about a year ago, and then found out that we share the same exact favorite lipstick - brand and shade - true story! And basically we've been each others' biggest fans ever since.

Hi, I'm Abby, and I blog at Always, Abby about all things beauty, style, and life. I'm a self-proclaimed makeup junkie, a candle hoarder, and scarf collector (three things you will see a lot of in my little corner of blogland). Basically if I love it, I blog about it. From the latest makeup and fashion trends, to home decor and fragrance... if it's working for me, I can't wait to share it with my readers. I hope you'll stop by, connect with me, and share about the things you love, too!

Next up is Tara of Penniless Socialite, as in Friday's post to announce I'm co-hosting a link up with Tara. I met her IRL and she is awesome. Hilarious. Witty. Stylish. Vegetarian. Plus she's also from NJ, so I mean, really, what's not to love?

I'm a stylish cat lady who loves sales, fashion, beer, pizza, and Bon Jovi. Follow along as I buy more clothes than fit in my closet and more makeup than fits in my Caboodle. There will also be pictures of my cats.

*Please be sure to stop by these ladies' blogs and show them some love!*

How To: Style a Striped Dress 6 Ways

In honor of the changing seasons (hot-cold-hot again), and because it's Monday and I'm lazy, I'm recycling what is probably my favorite of the guest posts I've done. In case you missed it when it was up on Rachel the Hat, here are six creative ways to wear the same dress over and over (no matter the season).

Quick side note: Be sure to stop by Jeans and a Teacup today, where Jessica's featuring me on her Tour Through Blogland. (Stay tuned for my tour coming next week).

1. add a T-shirt shirt under:
Wear a thin T-shirt under the dress. This not only provides a little more coverage, but it adds some visual interest as well. In this case, the simple graphic print of the dress really complements the pop of turquoise provided by the shirt.

2. add a T-shirt shirt over:
Knot a T-shirt over your dress for a casual look that allows you to easily add any color you like just by changing the shirt.

3. "tuck" in a T-shirt:
Belt a T-shirt over the dress to create the illusion of wearing a separate top and skirt. Not sure how?  Here's a goof-proof tip: knot the shirt in the back or front, tuck the knot under, then belt it.

4. add a cardigan:
For a relaxed look, wear an open cardi over the dress, and cinch it in with a belt to add shape.

5. add a vest:
For those extra-warm days when you just can't fathom anything covering your arms, throw a vest over your dress to keep it interesting.

6. add lots of layers:
When the temperatures begin to drop, pile on the layers for a cozy look. Here, I belted a chambray button up and threw on a chunky cardi over it. A scarf and boots complete the outfit and keep me feeling warm & fuzzy all day long.

I hope this inspires you to remix your favorite pieces in new and creative ways!

The Repeater

dress: exact
jacket: f21 | similar
booties: c/o chicwish | really similar
ring: street artist in Brooklyn | lookalike
scarf: DIY from vintage kercheifs

______________________________

This inexpensive T-shirt dress may be my favorite purchase of the entire summer. It's unbelievably comfortable and crazy versatile, which means I basically wore it all over Europe, remixing with various items from my suitcase (a few different scarves and a change of shoes goes a long way). And apparently I'm still not tired of it. Because after being home for a day (just enough time to remove it from my suitcase and throw it in the washer), here I am wearing it again, mixed simply with a denim jacket, infinity scarf, and booties. And since 'tis the season of the transitional outfit, I'm already thinking about how perfectly this dress will go from warm weather to cool. I'm having visions of pairing it with tights, a sweater, and knee high boots, or with warm cardigans, fall jackets, and chunky knit scarves. A girl can dream, right? And this girl prefers to dream about wearing the same dress over and over (and over).
