Let's Cruise

Spring is just around the corner (it's finally going to arrive, I just know it!), so I've been daydreaming of warmer weather wear.  I just found out about this cool site, called Cruise.  They have loads of designer pieces from Alexander McQueen to YSL (plus shoes, bags, jewelry, & accessories) that are simply gorgeous (they even sell really posh guys' stuff, too).  And while there's no chance those items will ever quite fit into my budget, I think we can all agree that it's nice to look at a pair of Choos and dream.  But my favorite part of the site is that they have a wonderful "mainline" department as well, with lots of totally affordable pieces.

Here are some of my favorite items:

1. Totally crushing on this adorable dog print poncho - wouldn't it just be the best way ever to keep dry on a rainy day??
2. It would make me smile to see my makeup all nice & organized in this pretty floral pouch (not to mention that it's totally spill-proof)
3. On that same token, if I had an iPad I'd totally dress it up in this matching cover
4. I'm having visions of frolicking in a field (all of my sartorial fantasies involve frolicking lately) in this lacy, flowy maxi dress}
5. It's practically impossible to resist horizontal stripes; they're basically a neutral in my opinion
6. A little out of my price range, but could it be any cuter?
7. How I love a nice, big, oversized boyfriend style watch
8. Oh, hello watercolor painting as wearable art.  Why yes, I would like to own you.  I just....need to have this.

*This is a sponsored post.  Compensation was received in exchange for a review.  All opinions are my own.  Because, yeah, I'd absolutely rock that dog ponchoIn a heartbeat.*

Mixed Media & a Giveaway

{h&m jacket | ON vest (similar) | target sweater (similar) & shoes | UO jeans | handmade hat | diy necklace}

I decided to try something a little different for this outfit.  I've been seeing a lot of what I've dubbed "mixed media" jackets around.  You know the ones - jacket part is one material, the sleeves are another.  Since I haven't owned anything like that since I was 13 (oh, I was so cool - denim jacket with leather sleeves AND matching jeans with leather chaps on the front), I decided to make my own.  It's simple, really.  Throw on a jacket, add a vest. Bam. Done.  I still can hardly believe it's back in style.  If only I'd had the foresight to hold on to an item I bought in my tweendom from a store called, of all things, The Circus (really).

And now, on to the giveaway.
So, I have a $30 gift card to JunieBlake that I'm not going to use (please note that the gift card is good for 2 more weeks; it expires on April 11th).  Since I don't want it to go to waste, I thought I'd hold a quick, flash giveaway so one of you can snap it up!  Entries are really easy, but you'll need to act quickly because the giveaway will only last through the weekend!  It starts now and ends at 12am Monday, April 1st.  Good luck!

Shoes Your Own Adventure

{target sweatshirt & sneakers | ON jeans | diy scarf | sprout watch}

Remember those "Choose Your Own Adventure" books?  I loved those as a kid.  Plus I finally took the plunge and got myself a pair of fabulously fugly wedge sneakers.  So, yeah, that explains my corny post title.  Sometimes it's hard to resist a terrible pun.

Anyway, I can't believe how much I love these sneakers!  I never thought a high heel could be so comfy, but I guess putting it in a sneaker is a pretty brilliant tactic.  I think the best part about them is that the wedge is totally hidden, so it just kind of looks like I magically grew 3 inches.  If you're anything like me (ie. short, so very very short), this is sort of a dream come true.

Polka Dot & Peach

 {target sweatshirt | f21 blouse (similar) | gap jeans (similar) | fossil watch | groopdealz bracelet (similar)}

Even though winter's being stubborn about letting spring have a turn, I can't help but feel like warmer weather is just around the corner when I'm wearing peach and gold polka dots. It's a combination created as if to say "Oh god, I'm still cold", with a gentle undertone of "Alright already winter, enough is enough.  I'm ready for spring now.  Thanks."

These photos were taken by my sweet friend, Natalie.  (Can you believe this was her first time?  She's a natural!)

Hello, Spring?

{thrifted gap sweater (similar) | jcp button up (similar) | ON skinnies | kamik boots | vintage necklace (similar)}

I had big plans of celebrating the first day of spring by wearing the adorable floral Prabal Gurung dress I picked up from Target a little while back and frolicking tights-less in a sunny field filled with budding flowers.  But since there's still snow on the ground and it's about 37 degrees, that will have to remain a fantasy.  Instead I'll just settle for getting a little more wear out of my sweaters and boots while continuing to patiently wait for winter to make like a tree and get out of here.

How are you welcoming the first day of spring?

Old Faithful

{target top | ON jeans & scarf (similar) | payless boots (so similar!) | inpink necklace (similar)}

Time and time again I find myself reaching for the same two pieces in my closet: this denim button up and these black skinny jeans.  I'd say that they are probably two of the biggest workhorses of my entire wardrobe, seeing as how I wear them at least 3-4 times a week, and in seemingly endless ways.  And yeah, that probably means I should be laundering them more often than I do, or being gentler on them than I am.  Ok, let's just say it - there are a lot of things I should be doing that I'm not.  Like starting my taxes.  Or cleaning the bathroom.  Or eating enough veggies, or exercising on a daily basis.  (Trust me, this list could probably go on for an embarrasingly long time).

Basically, I'm pretty thankful for the fact that these articles of clothing are holding up as well as they are.  It allows me to cross a few of my "should do's" off my list of "probably won't do anyway."

The Luck of the Oxfords

{thrifted UO sweater | target jeans (similar) & shoes (cute option) | fossil watch | UO necklace & coat (similar)}

On Sunday we still had some decent weather going (which as you know by now means naked ankles - nankles?), and hunny bunny and I were heading out to meet up with some friends for some lunch and a little estate sale shopping.  It was a casual and comfortable kind of day.  Because when you're rooting through an accumulation of someone's lifetime possessions, it is of the utmost importance to wear a sensible shoe.

And in case you're wondering, I walked away with a lacy curtain that will be used in some upcoming diy projects, a basketful of clothespins (more diy projects), a cheese slicer (still in its original packaging), a never-been-used-looking round cake pan, and an adorable vintage plastic deer tchotchke.  All for a whopping $4.  Also a little while back I thrifted this Urban Outfitters sweater for a grand total of $2.50.  I'm telling you, I am killing it in the "crap someone didn't want to keep" department.  It must have been the work of those lucky, sensible shoes.

Don't forget to enter the group giveaway I'm participating in.  There's some pretty incredible stuff up for grabs!

Kiss Google Reader Goodbye {+ a Giveaway}

In case you haven't heard yet, Google Reader announced that it will be shutting down on July 1st.  If you've been following along that way, may I suggest Bloglovin' as an alternative.  It's really user-friendly and is an easy way to organize all of the blogs you like to read.  I've been using it for close to two years now, and even someone as computer-illiterate as me has been able to navigate it with ease.

If you need some help with the transition, check out this wonderfully detailed tutorial that Taylor of Pink Heels Pink Truck wrote about how to transfer your Google Reader to Bloglovin'.

To help soften the blow, Kendra of Adventures of Brad & Kendra is having a flash giveaway that's running from now until 11:59pm EST Monday night.  You can win a chevron scarf in the color of your choice just for following me, her, or any of her other sponsors on bloglovin'.
(How's that for incentive?)

{{Good luck}}

Alright, Alright.

{target top & blazer | ON jeans | aldo booties | fossil watch | f21, groopdealz, kohls bracelets (similar 1, 2, 3)}

Now this is the kind of weather I'm talking about.  Sunny, warm, and clear blue skies.  This was on Saturday, just one day after we had a snowstorm.  Talk about a split personality.  Lately it seems that whenever spring peeks its little head up, I feel compelled to bare my ankles.  It's the perfect way to say "I'm ready for spring" while simultaneously (yet reluctantly) acknowledging that it's still winter.

On another note, with the graphic black & white and all the spiky jewelry, this is one of my edgier looks Which is really an oxymoron since I'm about as edgy as a circle.  But there's something so irresistibly cool about pairing a light, billowy top with some skinnies, a structured blazer, and booties.  Am I right or am I right?

p.s. - these awesome, artsy photos were taken by my friend, Fatiha.  You can check out more of her photography here.

All Buttoned Up & a Giveaway

(My eyes aren't really closed here.  I promise I stayed awake during this entire shoot).
{kohl's sweater (similar) | ON jeans & vest (similar) | steve madden boots | target & ON scarves}

Happy Daylight Savings time!  I don't know about you, but I'm pretty excited to have a little more sunshine in the evenings (but really who isn't?).  Plus, after an annoying snow storm on Friday, the weekend actually kind of started to feel like spring.  A decidedly confused and schizophrenic spring, but I'll take it.

Anyway, it was nice to be comfortable while outdoors for a change.  A buttoned up vest over a thin sweater paired with double scarves had me nice and comfy cozy for a date night consisting of a trip to the thrift store, takeout from Moe's, and snuggling on the couch to watch Seeking a Friend for the End of the World.

In other news, I'm participating in a group giveaway over at Penniless Socialite.  It's got lots of awesome stuff; you should totally enter.

All Business

{target blazer & chambray | gap jeans (similar) | gifted sweater (sewn into vest) | aldo booties}

I've got a bone to pick with Mr. Groundhog.  He promised an early spring, but winter's still got us in its icy grip.  The rat straight up lied.  Even though we're now in March, we're still getting temperatures that are dipping below freezingAt the rate this season's going, I'll be surprised if spring even starts on March 20.  In fact, taking these photos was one of the coldest moments I spent outside all season.  I could think of nothing but finishing and getting back insideWith the temperature hovering around 25 degrees with lots of obnoxious wind, there was no time for messing around.  It was all business for those 4 1/2 minutes we spent shooting these.
