Copy Cat

{sweater: gap, similar  //  shorts, pyramid bangle (similar 1, similar 2): f21  //  tights: rite aid  //  socks: steve madden  //  boots: payless, similar  //  pink bracelet: diy}

Although we got a touch of summer weather a couple weeks ago (as evidenced here and here), things have cooled down a bit to normal spring temperatures.  At first I was a little saddened at the prospect of having to wait a few more months for warmer weather, but after enduring several workouts in near 80 degree temperatures (sans air conditioning, because really, who in NJ installs their air conditioners in March? - there's usually still chance of a snowstorm), I decided that 50 and 60 degree days might not be such a bad idea.  There'll be plenty of chances to pass out from heat exhaustion come summertime.

Plus I get to rock tights a few more times which is cool because I was completely inspired by this post from Joyce, over at Joyful Outfits.
If you have a chance, please check out her amazing blog.
Trust me, you'll be glad you did.
{Thank you for the inspiration, Joyce!}

Highlights & Lowlights #2

{dress: target  //  jacket: i heart ronson, via jcp  //  vintage necklace: gramma's  //  tights: old navy  //  shoes, headband: payless}

        Lowlights:
  • Spending all day Sunday with a hangover that I couldn't shake until Monday evening.  It lasted over 24 hours.  My deepest apologies to my liver.
  • Forgetting to bring extra tissues when I went to see Hunger Games last night.  I had only one left in my purse.  It wasn't easy making it last the whole movie.
  • Practically bursting out crying when the games started in the movie and children began getting mauled.  I wasn't just tearing up; I was muffling huge, loud sobs.
  • Not knowing what Willam did to get kicked off of RuPaul's Drag Race.  Come on, Ru, really?!
  • My birthday is coming up.  I'm getting old.

        Highlights:
  • Watching Hunger Games in the theater last night.  It was as wonderful as I expected it to be, despite the (one) tear soaked tissue, smudged makeup, and the emotional out pour that left me feeling melancholy even after the movie was over.
  • Getting to hang out with some wonderful, fun friends that hunny bunny & I haven't seen in months.  Unfortunately, this was the cause of lowlight #1, but they were totally worth it.
  • Spending a truly lovely evening at a local Italian restaurant with my boyfriend.  The atmosphere was very relaxed and we were never rushed.  We had engaging conversation and lingered over mushroom pizza, eggplant, roasted red pepper, & mozarella pannini, frothy cappuccino, and creamy canolis.  We stayed over 2 hours without even realizing it.
  • My legs being just a little too sore from my workout yesterday to go for the jog in the woods I was planning today.  Total highlight because it just started storming outside and I am still nice and cozy and dry inside.  Thank you for the minuscule muscle tears which needed that extra day to recover, Tony Horton!
  • Seeing a fuzzy kitty and a wild turkey chilling in my backyard.  Not quite hanging out together, but in very close proximity.  I'll take it.
  • My birthday is coming up.  I get to have a party!

The Hangover

{cardi, tee, jeans, shoes: target  //  belt: steve madden, similar  //  earrings: claires, similar  //  watch: sprout}

Today I'm giving you full disclosure: I am still nursing a hangover that began yesterday morning and lasted all. day. long.  I think I'm just a little brain dead today, but at least I'm able to keep some food down which is a vast improvement from yesterday.
But from my suffering I have learned a very valuable lesson: If I'm going to party with my friends on Saturday night, then I definitely shouldn't have 4 glasses of wine the next morning before brunch, and I absolutely shouldn't order bottomless mimosas once I get there.

I now open up the floor to anyone who would like to remind me just how idiotic my behavior was.

Curiouser and Curiouser

{sweater: gap, thrifted  //  shorts  //  boots (similar), bracelets: delias  //  vintage kercheif: gramma's  //  watch: swatch (old)}

There are some days when writing comes naturally to me; the words practically flowing out before I've even had a chance to give them much thought.  Sometimes I even wake up in the morning knowing exactly what to write about, the sentences having formed themselves quite perfectly in my sleep.

And then there are other days when writer's block gets nice & cozy in my brain, effectively eradicating all creativity, and leaving me staring at a blank screen waiting for an idea to materialize.
But it rarely does.
When I have writer's block, I find that the only thing I am able to write about is the fact that I have writer's block.
So, in a way, could writer's block actually inspire me to write?
Why, what an oxymoronic paradox we have here....

Highlights & Lowlights

{skirt: diy from thrifted skirt  //  tee, similar boots: old navy  //  belt: jcp}

Some Highlights & Lowlights of my week:

         Lowlights:
  • Getting a total of 20 mosquito bites over the span of 2 days.  Those days were still technically winter.  Winter, people!
  • A very long, very full commuter train passing by as we were having this photo shoot.  "Oh, hello everyone.  Why yes, I'm having my boyfriend take pictures of me in the alley behind a grocery store, surrounded by bins of super stinky trash.  And how are you?"
  • Living in a town where mosquitoes outnumber humans by about 50,000:1.
  • Getting the notice that I have to go to the DMV to renew my license next month.  What?!  Didn't I just do that like 4 years ago

        Highlights:
  • Hunny Bunny will be picking up advance tickets for Hunger Games today.  We'll get to see it next Tuesday and I. am. so. excited.
  • Having a picnic in the backyard for dinner last night.  Hello, spring!  Welcome back :)
  • Finding brie at the farmer's market for unbelievably low prices.  I seriously don't know how they're even making a profit.
  • Then, having grapes and brie cheese on delicious bread topped with honey and toasted walnuts for dinner not once, but twice in the past week.  Unhealthy, perhaps, but downright delicious.
  • Washing, waxing, dusting, and vacuuming my car over the weekend.  It was a great workout and now she looks all shiny, clean, and pretty.
  • DIY'ing this skirt into a mullet.  It's so much cuter now than how it started out.

What were some of your highlights & lowlights?

    No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service

     {dress, cardi: target  //  boots: steve madden  //  watch: roxy  //  necklace: gift}

    This outfit couldn't be simpler.  A dress, a cardi, and some boots.
    There are some days when I enjoy layering pieces, or trying out new & interesting combinations of color and texture.
    And then there are the days that I only wear the bare minimum required by state law and most stores in which I would like to receive service.

    I just wanted to pop in to share some happy news with you.
    Yesterday I was a featured on bloggers.com!

    It was a completely unexpected surprise that totally made my day.
    It was an honor to be chosen by the editors to grace the bloggers homepage for the day.

    California Love

    {top, tank: target  //  shorts: f21  //  shoes: payless  //  earrings: pacsun  //  bandana: boyfriend's}

    I feel so California cool and casual in this outfit.  Of course, I have no idea what real Californians actually wear because my last visit there was when I was 15, and my only other reference of west coast wear is whatever Melissa Rivers has on in Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best.  But with Joan on the screen, it's kind of hard to pay attention to her daughter.  To me she's just a supporting character in what I like to think of as "That Hilarious Show About Joan Rivers".

    But I'm sure Joan would hate this look.
    And if I've learned anything from that show, I know that if Joan Rivers doesn't approve of your outfit, you can bet it's something her Californian daughter would wear.
    Yep, I'm pretty sure I'd look right at home strolling on a beach in Cali.

    Summer & Scallions

    {similar dress  //  cardi: target  //  tights  //  boots  //  similar belt}

    I have just two things to say:
    1. It feels like summer already.  I love spring, but I'll gladly skip it to start summer in March, thanks.

    2. Did you know that if you buy your scallions with the roots still attached you can plant them and have them grow into more and more scallions for several months?  Who knew it would only cost $0.50 to have bad breath every day for half a year?  It's a bargain, I tell ya.

    Lace, Stripes, and Way Too Much Fun

    {dress, top: delias  //  belt: jcp  //  tights: old navy  //  boots, socks: steve madden  //  bracelets: f21, payless, handmade}

    Without a doubt, weekends are the bomb diggity.
    But have you ever had one that's just so perfect you didn't want it to end?  I mean, really didn't want it to end?  You know, one that has good times with great friends, lots of laughter, Indian food, engaging conversation, a beautiful spring day perfect for jogging, thrifting, shopping at the farmer's market, and even a slumber party.

    And just when I thought my weekend couldn't get any better, we change the clocks and I get an extra hour of evening sunlight.
    Life is good.
