Lite Brite

{cardi: old navy  //  top: target  //  jeans: UO  //  boots: steve madden  //  necklace: diy}

Today Kayla challenged us to wear bright colors.  Piece of cake.  Wearing bright colors is sort of my M.O.  In fact, the biggest challenge was choosing which colors to wear.
Still, I wanted to push myself to try something new.
I settled on turquoise + red because it's one of my favorite color combinations, yet I've never worn the two together.  I threw on a black cardigan to tone it down just a bit.  And also because it's winter, which means that even in the house with the heat turned up to 73 degrees, I still catch en errant chill.  Oh, the joys of being a girl.
I topped (or bottomed?) off the look with leather boots to comply with the ABCs of Style challenge.
(Guess what L is for.)

50's Inspired

{jacket: target  //  cami (old), tights: old navy  //  cardi (old): delias  //  skirt: tulle  //  shoes (old): esprit  //  scarf: h&m  //  necklace: handmade}

Participating in the 10 Day Challenge has really pushed me out of my comfort zone and has motivated me to create outfits using items from the depths of my closet that haven't been exposed to daylight in longer than I care to remember.
For today's challenge, I was inspired by the 1950's.
  The full skirts.  The sweater sets.  The pearl necklaces.  The high ponytail.
Check, check, check, and check.

P.S. - I'm also linking up with the ABC's of Style.  K is for knit today, and my cardigan fits the bill.

All You Need Is Love

{cardi, shorts: f21  //  tee: target  //  tights: payless  //  boots, necklace: delias  //  feather clip:gift}

Today I was inspired to dress a little boho/hippie to channel my family.

We're just a bunch of guitar-playing, drum-banging, dreadlock-having, peace sign-wearing hippies.
We've all been bohemian at some point in our lives:
My parents lived in San Francisco in the 60s, I sported dreads and spent all my money on Grateful Dead shows a few years back, and my brother, sister, and cousin are still currently rocking the hippie vibe.
The hippie gene just runs in our blood.

I want to give a special thanks to my friend, Angela, who took these photos before our lunch date.  With a fractured thumb.
That is talent.

I didn't feel I was getting quite enough hippie effect, so I added this headband.
The first thing my boyfriend said when he came home was "you look like a dirty hippie."
Now, that's more like it.

Go see who everyone else is channeling today.

Right on Trend

{jacket: h&m  //  sweater, scarf, shoes: target  //  jeans: UO}

Today I'm embracing a trend because Kayla said I should.
No argument here.  If you remember, I'd been pining over a pair of red pants for, like, ever.  And red pants are so trendy right now.  Come to think of it, so are stripes.  And oxfords.  And I'm going to go ahead and say that taking photos in the least cluttered spot in your entire apartment (which is still pretty cluttered, even after you spent several minutes clearing things out of the way) is pretty hot at the moment too.  So is not looking into the camera.
Watch out, I may be setting trends as we speak.

Oh yeah, next trend:
 posing ridiculously because your boyfriend asks you to.  Embrace it.

A Little Bit of the Blues

{sweater, tights: old navy  //  skirt: tulle  //  scarf: mandee  //  shoes: payless  //  earrings: claire's}

The only blues I'm feeling today are the shades of my outfit.  Otherwise, it's a beautiful, warm day.  The squirrels are playful, the birds are chirping, and I'm absolutely loving strolling around in the sunshine.
The monochromaticality (yep, that's a new word) of this outfit is thanks to the 10 day challenge I'm participating in over at Freckles in April.  If it wasn't for Kayla's prompt, I probably never would have thought to wear these pieces together.
But I'm so glad I did.

Layered

{sweater: gap  //  button up: delias  //  jeans: limited  //  belt: h&m  //  scarf (pinned as infinity): old navy  //  boots: payless  //  watch: sprout, via pure citizen}

We got a little bit of snow over the weekend.  It blanketed everything in shimmering white flakes and made it peaceful, quiet, and.....cold.  So very cold.
Hunny bunny & I went for a walk, so I knew I needed to layer up a bit to keep warm.
And since it was predominantly grey/white outside, I thought I'd throw some punchy pops of color into my outfit to brighten things up.
It put me in a happy mood, but it was no match for the 24 degree weather.
At least it kept me upbeat while I was freezing my entire body off.

Donde Esta La Biblioteca

{jacket: target  //  skirt, scarf: h&m  //  tee: old navy  //  gloves: f21  //  boots: zappos}

I wore this on a leisurely evening stroll to the library (note the book bag on my shoulder).  This is what I do with my Thursday nights, ladies and gentlemen.

{P.S. - I know exactly where the library is.}

At Home

{button up: old navy  //  skirt: tulle  //  headband: forever21}

Yesterday was just a cozy day spent at home in comfy clothing.  Nowhere to be, no reason to layer up.  Lots of warmth, comfort, and lounging.

And on an unrelated note, if you don't know about SOPA or PIPA you need to read this post by Sarah from Just Take a Bow.   It is such a relevant issue, and the possibility of Congress passing these acts is terrifying.  Sarah's post is an extraordinarily clever way to spread awareness.
Thank you, Sarah.
Oh, and if this makes you as angry as it should, don't forget to do something about it.

Pauline

{sweater: alloy  //  jeggings: old navy  //  vintage kerchief: gramma's}

I can't help but feel that I'm channeling my Gramma whenever I wear one of her beautiful vintage scarves.   Of course, she was way more stylish than I could ever hope to be.
If there was ever a lady who was serious about her kerchiefs and scarves, it was my Gramma.  Don't believe me?  Just take a look at this:
She had an entire dresser drawer dedicated solely to them.
I feel so honored to have inherited the entire beautiful collection.

If she had ever paid a visit to the internet and known what a blog is, I think my Gramma would have been quite proud of this one right here.  Especially if a post or two (or three or four) just so happened to feature one of her beloved kerchiefs.

Great Lengths

{sweater: gap  //  dress: target   //  belt: thrifted  //  boots: steve madden  //  necklace: gift}

When I bought this dress in the summer, I never imagined I'd wear it so much in the winter.  But paired with a belted sweater, leggings, and knee high boots, 13 degrees was feeling like a toasty 22.
