It's Groundhog Time

{target button up (similar) & sweater | ON jeans | payless shoes (similar) | vintage necklace (similar)}

Saturday was Groundhog Day.  And since in this household the holiday is more a celebration of Phil Connors than Punxsutawney Phil, I thought it only fitting to wear an outfit inspired by last year's (I briefly considered wearing the same thing until I realized that last year I was wearing shorts.  I am all for continuity and integrity when it comes to repeating oneself for the sake of a movie, but it was only 25 degrees and I'm not completely insane).

Comfy, Happy, Cozy

{thrifted UO sweater (similar)  |  no nonsense leggings, c/o  |  steve madden boots  |  ON scarf (similar)}

You might recognize these photos from my No nonsense review.  But I liked this outfit so much that I just had to give it a proper, dedicated outfit post (which means you'll also be seeing the outfit featuring the tights, too).  This outfit accompanied me on a date with my boyfriend, and got to witness us discovering a new Indian restaurant that had some of the most delicious food I've ever tasted.  It walked around with us while we window shopped and conversed, and my sweater even got to pay a visit to her mother ship (Urban Outfitters).  It was a comfy, cozy, happy day for us all.

Oh. Em. Gee.

{f21 top  |  limited shorts  belt  |  old navy sandals (similar)  |  gifted bracelet (from Rachel) |  watch}

I'm beginning to wonder if there's something about the way I dress that attracts the wrong kind of people to me.
For example, I got to the movies to see The Campaign early last night, and sat at the end of an empty row.  Even though there were lots of other seats around, surrounded by no one at all, two very chatty girls decided to sit right next to me, forgoing the customary one-empty-seat-of-personal-space-between-strangers rule.  Normally I wouldn't mind because often times the shows are sold out anyway, but the girl who sat directly next to me had the strangest quirk about her.  You see, instead of just laughing when something amused her, this girl would cycle through four repetitive phrases consisting of "Oh my god!" "That's hilarious!" "That's so funny!", and my favorite, "OMG!!"  All.  Movie.  Long.  And at full "I'm watching a movie in my living room" volume.
In case you're having trouble imagining what I'm describing, here's a perfect reenactment of last night.  Pretty much to the tee.  JD's saying what I was thinking.
That's so funny.

Easy Breezy

 {top, shorts: f21  |  hat: old navy  |  necklaces: gift & vintage (similar)}

Yesterday was a nice, lazy, summer day.  And as such, shoes were out of the question for the most part.  Sometimes it's just nice to walk barefoot in the grass.

I Got it Covered

{chambray: old navy  |  dress: target (similar)  |  boots: steve madden  |  necklace: vintage}

It's around that time of year again when the mosquitoes of Lincoln Park come out in full force and seem particularly hungry for my blood.  (Or maybe everyone's blood equally.  I don't know; the large amounts of deet I've been inadvertently inhaling while arming myself with a protective coating of bug spray could be causing slight paranoia).

That being said, sometimes the only way to outsmart those suckers is to just cover up.  Luckily it was cool enough yesterday to shield myself with knee high boots, a long dress, and a 3/4 sleeve top.  Oh, and a necklace.  Because if Wu-Tang Clan taught us anything, it's to protect ya neck.
I'm pretty sure this is exactly what Method Man had in mind.

Highlights & Lowlights #8

{chambray: old navy (almost identical)  //  v neck  //  shorts  //  sandals: pacsun (similar)  //  watch

Lowlights:
  • Making myself a cup of decaf at 8:30pm, then realizing that wasn't actually decaf at all, but a fully caffeinated mug of coffee I just drank.  Falling asleep was no easy task, let me tell you.  The saddest part is that this is not the first time I've given myself accidental insomnia by way of cafe au lait.
  • That awkward moment after I checked out at the one and only register in a store I'd never been to, then turned around to realize that there were about 6 registers behind me and I had used the customer service line.  No wonder the cashier asked me if I was returning...So glad I didn't blurt out the stupid comment that was on the tip of my tongue, "Why; do you get a lot of returns here?"  I'm sure the response would have included a quizzical look from the cashier, most likely followed by a very slow and deliberate, "Yeeees."
  • Going for a run during a downpour.  In the woods.  Right after showering.

Highlights:
  • Having brinner (breakfast for dinner) last night.  This is usually our fallback plan when I don't have time to (or don't feel like) cooking.  It doesn't happen often, but when it does, oh, it's delicious.
  • Holiday weekend!  Hunny bunny's & mine will be occupied with meeting friends at an outdoor beer garden, seeing a Mets game, and maybe even a rooftop bbq.  Oh, and lots of chillaxing, which - let's face it - is simply the best kind of relaxing there is.
  • Planning our vacation to St. Thomas.  Just reading Fodor's Caribbean guide and thinking about snorkeling in clear waters, lounging on the beach, and eating tons of local fruit already has me in an island state of mind.  I can almost feel the sunburn I'm bound to get on the first day...

    Queen of Hearts

    {button up: f21  //  cropped top: UO  //  jeans: gap  //  shoes: target, similar  //  vintage necklace: gramma's, similar}

     On Friday I decided to be daring and put a cropped top on over my button up.
    And then I proceeded to wear it food shopping.
    Boy, do I lead a life of excitement and adventure.

    On another note, please pay no attention to my wrinkled sleeves; evidently I twist, move, and scrunch my arms much more than any other part of my body.

    Weekend Update

     {button up: old navy  //  top: banana republic, thrifted  //  jeans: target  //  wedges: target similar  //  necklace: diy}

    This past weekend was rainy and gloomy and hunny bunny & I just were having too lazy of a weekend to take any outfit photos (which explains my absence for the past few days.  You guys did notice I was gone, right??)  I assure you I did get dressed the one time we left the house, but alas, without photographic evidence I know those are just empty words.

    Yesterday was date night, so we decided to go for a walk in the nice, sunny, springy weather.  (And then came home and baked beer bread together - at hunny bunny's suggestion! - but that's another story).
    And now I can provide you irrefutable proof that I wore something other than sweat pants at least once since last Friday.
    You can all take a collective sigh of relief.

    7th Grade Boys

    {sweater vest: diy hand-me-down  //  button up: jcp  //  tee: 5below  //  jeans: gap  //  boots: old navy  //  watch: sprout, via pure citizen}

     When I think back to the fashions of middle school, images of my locker neighbors wearing tee shirt-topped plaid button ups swirl in my mind.  (My locker neighbors were all boys).
    So, thank you Jay, John, Glenn, & Mike for sporting the fashions that would inspire my outfit a mere 19 years later.

    See Your Shadow?

    {sweater: gap  //  button up, clutch, necklace: f21  //  shorts: h&m  //  shoes: payless (old)}

    Good morning all.  It's Groundhog Day!  Which in this household means the traditional yearly viewing of Bill Murray in, you guessed it, Groundhog Day.
    Even though I've seen the movie probably upwards of 15 times, it still makes me laugh every year.
    To quote Ned Ryerson, "It's a doozy."

    In other news, today's outfit was inspired by the Open to Interpretation challenge at Freckles in April.
    Click here to see the photo and to see how everyone else interpreted it.

    Also, I wore shorts - without tights or leggings - all day!  This is my favorite winter ever.
    (Reminder: February.  New Jersey.  'Nuff said.)

    Layered

    {sweater: gap  //  button up: delias  //  jeans: limited  //  belt: h&m  //  scarf (pinned as infinity): old navy  //  boots: payless  //  watch: sprout, via pure citizen}

    We got a little bit of snow over the weekend.  It blanketed everything in shimmering white flakes and made it peaceful, quiet, and.....cold.  So very cold.
    Hunny bunny & I went for a walk, so I knew I needed to layer up a bit to keep warm.
    And since it was predominantly grey/white outside, I thought I'd throw some punchy pops of color into my outfit to brighten things up.
    It put me in a happy mood, but it was no match for the 24 degree weather.
    At least it kept me upbeat while I was freezing my entire body off.

    Over-Zealous Brusher

    [just for funsies ~ a portrait of hunny bunny & me]
    {sweater: h&m  //  button up: f21  //  jeggings: old navy  //  boots: steve madden intyce  //  sunnies: express}

    Ok, can we just talk about the 65 degree weather we had here in NJ on Saturday?  In January?!  Amazingly gorgeous.
    Anyway.
    I had just gone to the dentist and was told that I'm an over-zealous brusher.  I've always suspected that I had an enthusiastic outlook on oral hygiene, but apparently I've been a little too eager in my endeavors.  My rough brushing was actually causing pits in my enamel.  Who knew?  Well, now you do.
    Other than that, though, my dentist raved about my clean mouth.  It was warm & sunny & it felt nice to have someone acknowledge all that flossing I've been doing.  Plus I was too warm in this outfit (may I remind you that it's January in NJ).
    I couldn't ask for a better Saturday.
