A Fresh Coat

{similar tank (on sale!) | similar cardi | ON jeans | lookalike shoes}

Coated denim skinny jeans seem to be making their way around the blogosphere lately, and with good reason - they're versatile, easy to style, and just kind of look cool.  But quite possibly my favorite part about them is that they give you that edgy, rock star intrigue, like Axl Rose circa 1988, when in reality you're just wearing a pair of jeans.  And that is exactly the kind of bad assery I can get down with.

Extraneous Additions

{ON vest (similar), tee, shorts | target shoes (similar) | fossil watch | gifted necklace, earrings (similar), bracelets}

Whenever it's summer, there usually comes a point when I'm thankful for the days cool enough to wear layers.  Don't get me wrong - summer is my favorite and I kind of love hot days, but I think we can all agree that being creative with a tank, shorts, and sandals can only go so far when it's 93 degrees outside.  So when it's a cool 70, I feel really grateful for the chance to gussy up my outfit with some extraneous item of clothingOver the weekend I took advantage of the 75 degree day to add a totally non-essential vest to my ensemble.  Cool-hot days and unnecessary accoutrements; it's the little things that make me happy.

Psychic

{thrifted UO sweater (similar)  |  target jeans  |  payless shoes (now 50% off!)  |  f21 necklace}

I'm just popping in for a quick post before I head out for errands and other assorted bits of excitement.  I wore this outfit last week, back when it was still balmy and I could pretend that winter wasn't just around the corner.  This week has found me in rain gear nearly every day, with temperatures dropping down as low as the 40s.  Not quite arctic temps yet, but I can tell it's a chilly premonition of things to come.  Imagine that, me, a weather-clairvoyant.  For my next divination I predict that we'll encounter spring after winter.  I'm 99.999% sure.  You can quote me on that.

That 70s Vibe

{top, jeans, shoes (similar): target  |  necklace worn as bracelet: vintage (similar)  |  watch: sprout}

Something about wearing a poufy, speckled, tucked-in top makes me want to throw on some knee socks & booty shorts, and boogie-oogie-oogie on down at the roller rink.
But instead I just wore this to the mall.
So, do me a solid - pop in your 8 tracks, fluff out that afro, and get down with the funk.
Someone's got to be groovy around here.
You dig?

Urban Safari

{tee: gap  |  skirt: old navy  |  vest: hand-me-down  |  wedges: target (similar)  |  necklace: diy  |  watch: boyfriend's  |  rings: c/o oasap}

 In this outfit, I feel like I'm ready to go on safari.
You know, the kind where you wear high heels, sit in a hatchback, marvel at the birds & squirrels in your yard, and maybe go out for Mexican with your boyfriend afterward.

On another note, my hair is poufed out to Mrs. Garrett-like proportions.
Call me crazy, but I kinda think I like it.

I'm linking up with Joyce today.  And as usual, these lovely ladies as well.

I Like Big Buns and I Cannot Lie

{top: gap  |  skirt, rings: c/o oasap  |  wedges: payless (similar)  |  belt: target}

It's true.  I love to put my hair in a big ol' bun.  In fact, the bigger the better.   Forget the sock bun (which I've accepted is pretty much beyond both my mental and physical capacity to achieve, anyway).  Give me lots of hair, teased into a huge, swirly, cotton candy confection to sit atop my head, reaching the kinds of heights sock buns can only dream about.

Admittedly, when I take it down I bear a mild resemblance to a crazy cat lady, but only hunny bunny gets to revel in that lovely look.  And luckily enough for me, he's a Simpsons fan.  I haven't asked, but the way he smiles at my rat's nest of hair makes me confident that there's a soft spot in his heart for an Eleanor Abernathy lookalike.

Martyr

{top, jeans: gap  |  wedges: payless (similar)  |  scarf: old navy  |  watch: sprout}

It was 100 degrees and humid when I wore this, but I still rocked the scarf and jeans when all I really wanted was to strip down to my skivvies and plunge into the nearest, coldest body of water.
But this isn't that kind of blog, and so I endured this sweat-suit instead, just for your sartorial pleasure.

Whoever said I wasn't dedicated to my readers?

This is Not Summer

{sweater: gap  |  jeans: target  |  shoes: payless (similar 1, 2)  |  watch: sprout  |  belt: steve madden}

Well, yes, technically it isn't summer.  It's still spring until June 20, but we all know the official beginning of the summer season starts Memorial Day weekend.  And when 90 degree temperatures coincide with the holiday, it seems as if Mother Nature's saying she agrees with our unwritten rule and is happy to oblige.

But yesterday was a different story.  I was cold.  I stared longingly at the thermostat, torn between flipping the little switch that would turn on the heat, and feeling ridiculous even considering using heat in June.  (Ridiculous won, by the way.  I mean, it's June!)  Instead, I tried to remember how to dress for 60 degree weather, cozied up in a sweater, grabbed a scarf just in case, and was out the door.

Then quickly back in the door to shut all the windows I had forgotten were open, which were most likely to blame for my polar-like predicament.  Being cold makes you do crazy things, I tell ya.

Today you'll find me playing here.

On Repeat

{top (on sale): gap  |  skirt, belt: jcp  wedges: payless (similar)  |  bracelets: f21, delias, handmade}

I have a confession to make.  I am a repeat offender.
Not only did I wear this top in my last post (as seen here), but I may have also worn it four times this past week alone.
I just can't help myself - the fabric is so soft and flowy, the shape is super flattering, and if it was 90 degree weather for 5 days straight where you lived, you wouldn't want to wear sleeves, either.
In fact, this tank is so perfectly lightweight, it barely feels like I'm wearing it at all.  And when humidity is at 85%, feeling naked is a much more viable (and legal) option than actually being naked, amiright?

Highlights & Lowlights #4

{top, wedges (similar): target  // jeans  //  bracelets  //  sunnies: harmon}

Lowlights:
  • Having to spend some time at the DMV.  I don't know what kind of witchcraft voodoo they've got going on, but no matter what the temperature is outside, it's always stiflingly hot inside.  It's quite remarkable, really.
  • Picnik (my love, my editor of choice, my best friend blogging tool) closed.  It was such an easy, fun, user-friendly photo editor.  It will be missed.
  • Spray on self-tanner.  I look like some strange Snooki-zebra-leopard hybrid.  I'm now tan, striped, and spotted.

Highlights:
  • That one time I looked like Zooey Deschanel.  Yes, I just wrote an entire post about it, but it's just a little too awesome not to mention again.  Fair warning, I'll probably mention it about 5,683 more times...this week.
  • I just discovered a new, healthy snack - cover half an apple with a couple slices of cheddar cheese and broil for a few minutes. I may have been lazy enough to make this for dinner twice this week.
  • And speaking of tasty snacks, I've also been loving on this dessert: banana mixed with nutella and toasted walnuts.  I'm a fan of the easy.
  • Getting to borrow my dad's sweet Audi while he was on vacation last week.  I love my pretty little Scion tC, but I just felt uber cool driving that baby around for a little while.  So what if there were so many controls, buttons, and dials in there that the console was in Spanish and I had heat blowing from the left vents, and AC blowing from the right?
  •  Always finding it easier to think of highlights than lowlights.  That's pretty great.

It's party time.

    Highlights & Lowlights #3

     {cardi: joyce leslie, similar  //  top: diy from t shirt, similar  //  skirt: delias  //  shoes: payless, similar  //  tights  // necklace: diy}

           Lowlights:
    • Having writer's block practically since the beginning of April.  Not fun.
    • Getting a bad haircut.  I'm putting out an official request for my amazing hairdresser of a sister to move back to NJ so I don't have to fly all the way to Florida for a fantastic haircut.
    • Being (mentally) prepared to face the DMV to renew my license, and then being absolutely, positively unable to open my safe to retrieve the necessary-to-prove-I'm-really-me documents the DMV requires.  I'm talking straining, grunting, squeezing, pulling, trying as hard as I can to lift the damn latch for over 2 hours before giving up out of sheer frustration.  Hunny bunny gets home and realizes I simply had to push down before lifting up.  ...............Oh.

            Highlights:
    • Going out to celebrate National Cheese Fondue Day by eating a cheddar/beer/jalapeno/salsa fondue!
    • Waking up on Sunday morning to find that the Easter (hunny) bunny visited and brought two baskets of my favorite Easter candies including two full sized bags of Cadburry mini eggs.  Yes that's right, this full grown woman still gets Easter baskets from her boyfriend and is not ashamed to admit it.
    • Starting a new book that I became instantly enamored with.  It's called Cinder, it's made for teens, and it's loosely based on Cinderella.  Except now she's a cyborg living in the future, her best friend is an android, there's a plague spreading around Earth, and there's an evil moon queen who wants her dead.   Sound too ridiculous to be good?  Pick up a copy and see for yourself.
    • Looking forward to baking (my own) birthday cake with hunny bunny tonight.  We're going to attempt ombre cake layers.  Successful results will be shared with you; failures will be eaten before photographic evidence can be acquired.
