Even though it's about 25°F outside, and we haven't had hot water in our apartment since Sunday (seriously.), I'm still in a spring-y kind of mood.  Maybe it's the fact that we had a tiny taste of warmer weather a couple weekends back, or maybe it's because I keep gazing at photos of myself from that weekend wearing fun, bright florals and showing some leg,* but I've been doing a little online window shopping in preparation for the warmer weather.  Winter has to end at some point, right??

When my newest sponsor, DressVenus, asked me to do a feature about maxi dresses, I was all too happy to oblige.  Little did they know I had already scoped out all of the maxis on the site, and had my favorites nestled snugly in my virtual wishlist, just begging to be bought.

(*it's that one.)

Breezy, flowy, prettily printed v-neck maxis are my favorite.  If I could get away with wearing one of these every single day, I would.

There's something bohemian, yet chic going on here, and I want to be a part of it.

Not-so-little black dress or not-so-little white dress.  But oh-so flattering and elegant.

Hello, Spring?

{thrifted gap sweater (similar) | jcp button up (similar) | ON skinnies | kamik boots | vintage necklace (similar)}

I had big plans of celebrating the first day of spring by wearing the adorable floral Prabal Gurung dress I picked up from Target a little while back and frolicking tights-less in a sunny field filled with budding flowers.  But since there's still snow on the ground and it's about 37 degrees, that will have to remain a fantasy.  Instead I'll just settle for getting a little more wear out of my sweaters and boots while continuing to patiently wait for winter to make like a tree and get out of here.

How are you welcoming the first day of spring?

Urban Lumberjack

{target button up | kohl's thermal top | ON jeans & vest | steve madden boots}

Every winter I ask myself why I'm still living in NJ.  And every year I have no answer.  Seriously, after living here my whole life I'm still a complete wimp when it comes to cold weather.  Don't let these photos fool you - they were taken a few days ago when it was still a balmy 43 degrees out.  But today you won't catch me outside dressed like an urban lumberjack, oh no.  That's mild weather wear.  Today it's all faux fur, fleece, and flannel for this coward.

Winter Stripes

{ON sweater (cute option -on sale!) |  target skirt (similar)  |  steve madden boots | ON scarf}

I've been a little off track from my usual outfit posting format, but Christmastime simply requires a departure from the norm to bring you some gift guides and a fancy nails how-to, (and maybe even a couple more surprises before the big day).  But just because I've been in the Christmas spirit doesn't mean I haven't been getting dressed.

In fact, between visions of sugarplum fairies dancing in my head, and dreaming of a white Christmas, I've been conjuring up ways to transition my beloved striped maxi skirt into the colder months.  Inspiration struck and I pulled some leggings on underneath, and wore this get-up to do a little shopping.  I was totally toasty, completely comfortable, and most importantly, was wearing my maxi in winter.  That's a big ol' check mark in the win-win-win column.

Baby I'm Back

{ON dress, c/o | kimchi blue coat (crazy similar) | UO necklace | diy scarf (similar) | payless headband & tights | Steve Madden boots | Gramma's vintage brooches}

Hi everyone!  Please forgive my extended absence.  I just spent the last two weeks at my sister's completely awesome, yet internet-lacking apartment in Florida.  I had planned on posting to the blog while down there, but it seems I didn't posses the foresight to inquire about whether her place was internet-equipped or not.  (It was not).  But the good news is that we got to spend lots of quality time together; shopping, doing hair, cooking Thanksgiving dinner, catching up, and sharing lots of laughs & pumpkin-infused cocktails.  Extra bonus - my mom & brother also live down there, so I got to visit with them a bunch, too.  It was fantastic getting to see my family while relaxing in the warm, sunny Florida weather.

Just when I was getting used to the idea of Christmas lights on palm trees, I returned home to a blast of cold, grey weather that I was definitely not prepared for - either physically or mentally.  At least I had this new and adorably flattering, but more importantly, free Old Navy winter dress to wear*.  Getting to don a pretty, long sleeved dress with colored tights always helps to make the acceptance of winter just a little bit smoother in my book.

In other news, the supremely sweet and friendly Irene of Love Simple Green did a Q&A with me recently.  If you've been lying awake at night wondering what my favorite quote is, or how I'm working toward my dreams, check out the post and wonder no more.

blog-worthy

{target flannel & tee (similar)  |  ON jeggings  |  kamik boots  |  sprout watch  |  similar necklace}

I almost didn't show you guys this outfit.  I just threw it on (when it was still raining) to go to the library, the post office, and then to help my dad out in his chilly basement office for the majority of the day.  But when hunny bunny picked me up on his way home, he said "Oh, you want to take pictures today."  I didn't need much more prompting than that.  As I've progressed in my blog, so has hunny bunny's acute awareness of my style.  It's sort of amazing - for a guy who dresses like a cartoon character (seriously, he wears variations of the same outfit every day), I'm pretty impressed that he has become so attuned to my style, and what looks good on me.  He can now tell me - with accuracy - if something I wear looks unflattering, silly, or just plain strange.  So when he thought I looked blog-worthy, I had to take his word for it.  And besides, how could I pass up getting to take photos during "golden hour"?  This is the kind of perfect, soft, glowing light that girls everywhere strive to be seen in at all times, and I am no exception.

Psychic

{thrifted UO sweater (similar)  |  target jeans  |  payless shoes (now 50% off!)  |  f21 necklace}

I'm just popping in for a quick post before I head out for errands and other assorted bits of excitement.  I wore this outfit last week, back when it was still balmy and I could pretend that winter wasn't just around the corner.  This week has found me in rain gear nearly every day, with temperatures dropping down as low as the 40s.  Not quite arctic temps yet, but I can tell it's a chilly premonition of things to come.  Imagine that, me, a weather-clairvoyant.  For my next divination I predict that we'll encounter spring after winter.  I'm 99.999% sure.  You can quote me on that.
