One of My Brighter Moments

{sears dress (cute option) | whoop tee shirt | qupid sandals (similar) | gifted necklace (similar) | c/o oasap ring}

These 90 degree days we've been having over the past week are really making it feel like summer.  However, this is precisely what not to wear on those kinds of days.  The dress was way too long, blocking the nonexistent breezes I kept hoping for, and trapping the heat in.  The tee shirt, while wonderful at reflecting light, also had a blanket-like effect and turned my own body against me by preventing its heat from escaping.

Before you go thinking I'm a complete dummy for wearing this on such a hot day, I had worn this outfit a week ago when it was cooler, and I only put it on again to get some photos.  However, choosing to photograph this outfit on a hot, humid, sunny day, walking in the heat to this location, and standing around sweating in places I didn't even know could sweat for 15 minutes, was apparently totally within my realm of good decisions.  So, scratch that first sentence.  It may not have been my brightest moment.

Shape Shifter

{target dress (similar) | sears top | f21 sandals (similar) & brown bracelet | gifted necklace & bracelets (similar}

I am well aware that this dress has sort of a funny shape, and may not be the most flattering on my body.  In fact, when I first bought it it looked better, but when I washed & dried it, the crocheted band near the knees shrunk and the rest didn't, leaving this kind of reverse tulip shape.  Which sounds pretty, but actually isn't.  But it's all good because I love the way I feel in this outfit, despite its distorted shape.  Sort of boho, sort of hippie, and utterly comfortable.  Plus, one of my very best friends who moved to Switzerland a year and a half ago arrives tomorrow (!!!) to spend the next 3 months working here in NYC.  I'm just way too thrilled to care that my dress is an undercover shape shifter.  My friend is coming back!

Maxi Love

{ON dress, sweater (similar), & boots (similar) | fossil watch | boyfriend's belt | gifted earring | dogeared necklace}

There's not much to say about a maxi dress that hasn't already been said.  Comfy, flattering, lengthening, easy to top with a sweater and fool your friends into thinking it's a skirt...what's not to love?

Highlights & Lowlights #7

{tee: target (similar)  //  skirt: h&m  //  sandals: o'neill (similar)  //  necklace: gift  //  earrings: bahamas (made from coconuts!)}

Lowlights:
  • I sat down at a restaurant and as the hostess handed me my menu, she called me ma'am.  Ma'am!  Right to my face.  The nerve.
  • Attending a going away party for a friend and then, due to some confusion, not getting a chance to say goodbye to her.  My sentiments sent over facebook just don't stand up to a good, real life goodbye.
  • Waking up in the middle of the night to what sounded like something be dragged across the attic.  As a borderline insane animal lover, I don't want to call an exterminator.  I may just have to deal with those mysterious sounds from above...
  • Going out to dinner with my neighbor and having him tell me, rather emphatically, that he thinks gay marriage is "just ridiculous."  I haven't really been able to look at him the same way since.

Highlights:
  • Sharing some good conversation and lots of laughs with a bunch of friends I haven't seen in a while.  I love my friends.
  • Getting to meet a retired secret service agent who was there during Reagan's attempted assassination.  Plus, he was also inside the World Trade Center when it was bombed in 1993.  The man lived through an explosion. (!!)  It was an intriguing conversation to say the least.
  • This amazingly warm & sunny weather.  Driving with the sunroof open and David Guetta pumping through the speakers - that's how I roll.
  • Having my hunny bunny nap on the couch next to me while I type...when we really should be grocery shopping and taking outfit photos.  But it's just so much sweeter this way.

All You Need Is Love

{cardi, shorts: f21  //  tee: target  //  tights: payless  //  boots, necklace: delias  //  feather clip:gift}

Today I was inspired to dress a little boho/hippie to channel my family.

We're just a bunch of guitar-playing, drum-banging, dreadlock-having, peace sign-wearing hippies.
We've all been bohemian at some point in our lives:
My parents lived in San Francisco in the 60s, I sported dreads and spent all my money on Grateful Dead shows a few years back, and my brother, sister, and cousin are still currently rocking the hippie vibe.
The hippie gene just runs in our blood.

I want to give a special thanks to my friend, Angela, who took these photos before our lunch date.  With a fractured thumb.
That is talent.

I didn't feel I was getting quite enough hippie effect, so I added this headband.
The first thing my boyfriend said when he came home was "you look like a dirty hippie."
Now, that's more like it.

Go see who everyone else is channeling today.

Live From New York

{top: alloy  //  jeans: gap  //  cowboy booties: old navy  //  necklace: gift  //  bracelets: delias, target, handmade}

I love this outfit.  It's so easy, breezy, hippie chic.  What I didn't love, though, was taking these outfit photos in front of a live audience.
That's right, what you don't see is that there were bleachers full of people with not much else to look at than some chick getting her photo taken in front of a pane of glass that overlooks a street.  Then again, it's New York City.  They probably didn't even notice I was there.

(Photos were taken at High Line Park.  If you ever have the chance, check it out.  It's a unique fusion of natural elements and creative urban landscaping that was thoughtfully planned and beautifully executed.)
