Snow Disappointing

{target sweater (similar) | ON vest & tights | h&m shorts (cute option on super sale!) | steve madden boots | f21 necklace (similar)}

So, I was about to publish a whole post about how disappointed I am that just when it warmed up enough to melt the skanky snow that's been hanging out for the past few weeks, it goes and snows again.  Like, on the very same day that the other snow finally vanished. But January is a tough enough month to endure without me chiming in to complain about it.  So for a little change of pace, I bring you My List of Positive Things About January:

Positive Thing About January #1:  It's still Christmasy.  My house looks like Santa's workshop for at least half of January (ok, usually a little more).  I just love the fun decorations, and it's still kind of sort of acceptable to have them up throughout the month.  Come February, that crap won't fly.

Positive Thing About January #2:  It's chilly enough to consider purchasing these.  Anyone own a pair?  Good?  Bad?  Ugly?

Positive Thing About January #3:  Sometimes the snow has little ice crystals sitting on top of it = nature's own glitter.  As a female who enjoys sparkly things, I appreciate this.

Positive Thing About January #4:  I get to wear lots of cozy layers.  I know I complain about the cold, but I admit that about 3/4 of the way through summer I'm really missing the option to top my outfit off with a thick, chunky scarf, a cool pair of boots, or an oversized cable knit sweater.

Positive Thing About January #5:  The cold weather provides a perfect excuse to snuggle up on the couch, whip up a batch of hot chocolate and a big bowl of popcorn, and guiltlessly enjoy hour after hour of Shameless on dvd.

Blathering Blogger in Black & Blue

{target jacket | pacsun dress (similar) | payless booties (similar)}

I was looking through some old photos and came across these ones that I forgot to post back in October.  (#shamefuloversight)  Notice the lush, colorful foliage in the background and the lack of utter frozenness on my face...neither of which I can say have been present in any of my photos of late.  These pictures just scream slightly warmer weather.  Which is actually quite fitting, since today (mercifully) feels like a lovely, crisp autumn day.  But you know, the scary kind where you know that winter and its bitingly bitter, bleak, brisk days of brutality are just around the bend.  Apparently these are the very same days that make alliteration irresistible, too.

Happy Little Dots

{gap sweater (similar) & jeans (similar) | f21 button up (similar), rings, & necklace (lookalike)}

Well, it looks like I've begun unconsciously matching my outfits to the weather.  That's great when it's sunny and bright outside, but can look a little depressing when it's cold and grey.  I don't want to look cold and grey...or depressed.  At least my small dose of gold polka dots make up for it.  It's tough to look blue while wearing grey if I've got happy little dots peeking out from underneath.  Remember that.  They are words to live by, kids.

Walking Advertisement

{target skirt (so similar!), sweater (similar), blazer, & scarf | ON tights | aldo boots (on sale!)}

I just realized that about 70% of my outfit is from Target.  I'm so branded up, I almost feel as conspicuous as a Nascar driver with sponsor logos emblazoned all over his uniform...but at least this is a little more subtle than walking around with a giant bullseye on my back....or chest and forearms, as the case may be.

In a Frozen State

{h&m shorts & sweater (similar) | f21 hat | payless tights | delias boots (crazy similar) | kohls bracelet (similar) & necklace}

Please excuse my pursed lip, sour lemon expression in these photos.  I think my face just froze like that when I took off my coat.  I was just. so. cold.  I was trying really hard not to be; I was thinking warm thoughts, concentrating on not shivering, and I mean, I was even wearing a leopard print hat.  If the presence of faux leopard can't keep me toasty, I don't know what can.  But when living in NJ, sometimes you just have to grin and bear it....or in my case grimace, groan, grumble, and grouse....that's just as good, right?

On another note, if you haven't already signed up for Crowdtap, then you are just plain cray cray.  Answer some questions and then you can get free stuff, like an Old Navy dress.  Amongst other free stuff I've received?  A bikini, workout clothes, a whole party pack of bbq seasonings, and amazon gift cards.  Seriously, what are you waiting for?  Click here to sign up.
(This portion was in no way sponsored by Crowdtap.  I am a member and get perks when I refer others to sign up.  But so does everyone else.)

Of Sunshine & Smiles

{target cardi (similar) | joyce leslie top (old) | gap jeans (so similar) | old navy booties (crazy similar) | handmade hat (cute option)}

There's always something about a bright, sunshiny day that makes my heart smile.  No matter if it's 80 degrees or 5 below.  Luckily this day hovered around a sunny 35, which if you're native to any colder climate you'll know is actually possible to survive without a coat in for short periods of time so long as the sun is shining, most skin is covered, and there is absolutely, positively not even the slightest hint of movement in the air.  A few fantasies of sun-drenched beaches and pina colodas usually don't hurt, either.

Snippets of 2012

I had meant to write a few more posts between Christmas and now, but first spending time with family for Christmas happened, and then as an extra special gift, I was hit with a nasty cold that came with a fever and zero energy.  Needless to say, not much dressing was going on - unless you count pjs, hoodies, slipper socks, and blankets.  Luckily, the end of the year (or in this straggler's case, the beginning of the next one) is a great time to post outfits you've already seen, in the name of looking back to see how my style has progressed, how much my hair has grown, and apparently to also find out that I seem to very much enjoy looking at the ground.  And so I give to you, my sartorial snippets of 2012.
