Trick or Treat

{hat: handmade  //  coat: ecko  //  jeans: limited  //  boots: DC, via zappos  //  rosy complexion: freezing temperatures}

Happy Halloween!
I'll admit it - I feel kind of lame this year.  I was just too lazy to put together a costume.  But you know what?  Autumn decided to dress up this year instead.  It went as winter by having a blizzard in October.
  Hunny bunny and I stayed cuddled on the couch almost the entire weekend and I only changed out of my uniform of flannel pj pants & a cozy hoodie to the above when we finally ventured out to go grocery shopping (during the snow storm!).  While I was walking around the store a girl dressed as a cat gave me a smile and a little nod.  So I suppose this arctic-ready outfit sufficed as a costume, anyway.  Look at me, I dress up without even trying.  I can only wonder what that says about the way I look the other 364 days of the year...

Here are some of my costumes from Halloweens past.  (Proving to you that I made an effort in other years makes me feel a little less pitiful about my utter lack of creativity today).

Umbrellas & Errands

{v neck tee & cowboy booties: old navy  //  cardi: joyce leslie  //  jeans: gap  //  earrings: claire's  //  vintage kerchief:  gramma's}

I didn't actually wear this outfit yesterday.  These pictures were from a couple weeks ago and I didn't get around to posting them the day of, so I decided to literally save them for a rainy day.  And that rainy day was yesterday.  It was cold and damp and icky outside, so naturally I decided it would be the perfect day to run around and do all my errands.  Who doesn't love driving in complete darkness at 3 o'clock in the afternoon with every car's headlight bouncing off the slick, wet roads and creating glare through your driving glasses (yes I wear driving glasses), then struggling with a soaking wet umbrella while simultaneously trying to take off your mittens and stick your car keys back in your purse once you get in the store?
What can I say, I'm a glutton for punishment.

Sadly I didn't get an opportunity to snap any photos of yesterday's outfit, but trust me - no big loss there.  Just picture jeggings & rain boots with a short-sleeve scoop neck tunic that I wound up being too cold in, so I had to add a floral long-sleeve thermal shirt underneath that peeked out from above the tunic's scoop neck.  I'm sure I looked like a 5 year old wearing her smock for craft time.
So genius.

PS - sorry for the poor quality of the photos; it's just not possible to get proper lighting inside my tiny apartment once it's already dark outside.  Even if I do have all 3 lamps in the room turned on and am standing in front of a white background for the light to bounce of off.

Playing Dress Up

{striped tee: target  //  jacket: borrowed  //  jeans: gap  //  shoes: borrowed  //  bag: BCBG, borrowed  //  bracelets: forever21 & handmade  // ring, necklace: borrowed  //  earrings: handmade}

I was at a friend's house and finally "came out" to her.  About my blog, that is.  I hadn't really told anyone about it since I'm still new to it all.  Only my boyfriend and one other friend knew (well, and all you of course).  Hunny bunny and I were at her apartment when I needed to take my outfit photos, and darn it all I just couldn't think of any plausible explanation of why we'd have to go up to the roof.  With a camera.  All alone.
To my surprise and delight, she was really excited and extremely supportive.  So much so, in fact, that she styled me in her clothing and jewelry, and shot the photographs*.
My only regret is that I forgot to ask where she bought this jacket.  I want one so badly that I seriously contemplated running down six flights of stairs to throw it in my car, then a quick sprint back up again when she had her back turned.

How about you all?  Do you live a secret life of blogging or do you share it with everyone you  know?

Date Night

{maxi dress: target  //  sweater: gap  //  scarf: h&m  //  belt: gifted  //  boots: report, via zappos}

Last night was supposed to be date night.  And if you recall yesterday's post, I had planned to really dress up to go out.  You know - sweat pants, an old tee shirt & hoodie, unwashed hair tied up in a scrunchie.  The works.
But then I thought, "Why embarrass my poor boyfriend tonight when there are just so many other opportunities in which to embarrass him.  Let's give him a break."
So I put on this outfit, because it's kind of stylish while still remaining laid back and comfy.
And you know what?  This outfit was the apparel equivalent of the kiss of death.  Because we wound up getting a little too cozy at home to want to go out anywhere.  (I knew I should have stuck with the sweats).

But we did emerge for a walk around the neighborhood and got to meet this little guy.
Isn't he gorgeous?  Look at those eyes!  Is it strange to be completely and utterly jealous of a dog's eyes?  No?  I didn't think so either.

Priorities

{dress, blazer, & leggings: target  //  scarf: mandee  //  boots: steve madden intyce  //  belt: payless  //  sunnies: express  //  bracelet: forever21}

I love this outfit.  It's comfy and pretty and warm.  It says "I tried" without saying "I tried too hard."  This is the outfit I should have planned on wearing for my date tonight with hunny bunny.  But we're going to the movies (yeah I'm rocking my optimum rewards free movie Tuesdays, what!) so I'll probably wear something really sexy like sweats and a scrunchie.
Instead, I opted to wear this outfit to my laser hair removal appointment, no joke.
Yup, dress up for the aesthetician, dress down for my boyfriend.
I've got my priorities straight.

It's About That Time...

{tee: gifted  //  jacket: h&m  //  scarf: delias  //  jeggings: target  //  boots: old navy}

Well, it seems to be about that time.  It's getting chillier outside, the leaves are falling, I find myself wearing more sweaters, boots, and jackets, the heat in my apartment has been on for weeks, and Halloween is just around the corner.
I think it finally might be time to put away the air conditioners, don't you think?

Jailbird Polka

{sweater: old navy  //  jeans: limited  //  boots: steve madden intyce  //  necklace: gifted  //  earrings & left hand bracelet: handmade  //  right hand bracelets: target, handmade, 5below}

So, I happened to be wearing this striped sweater at a bar that happened to have this striped mugshot backdrop just for taking photos.  What are the chances?  (Well, ok maybe higher than average considering that I can't stop wearing stripes).  I guess if I'm that committed to stripes, I'll have to accept that I might get caught looking like a 1940s prisoner at one point or another.
Since it was already dark outside and the lighting was decent in here, hunny bunny & I decided to steal away from our friends for a bit to snap some photos.

..and because the beer garden we were at had a live polka band in honor of Oktoberfest....
...my hunny bunny was able to capture me busting out my best "polka-when-i-thought-he-wasn't-shooting" move.  Honestly, I never even knew I wanted to dance to polka.  But apparently a roaming oompa band complete with accordion and tuba players just brings out the German in me.  Or maybe it was the three beers I had already had.  Yeah...could have been those.

PS. - for those of you still stumped from yesterday's quote, it was The Mad Hatter from Disney's Alice in Wonderland. (If you want to get right to the quote, fast forward to minute 7:15).  I guess it's sort of an obscure line, but my sister and I watched that movie repeatedly as kids and just latched onto the quote (as well as about 8,634 others).
A very merry unbirthday to you!

Mustard? Don't Let's Be Silly!

{cardi & bracelets on right hand: forever21  //  tee: old navy  //  scarf: mandee  //  jeans: limited  //  boots: steve madden intyce  //  sunnies: express  //  bracelet on left hand: payless}

Bonus if you can name the movie the post title is quoted from.
Double bonus if you can tell me the character who said it.
Although, as much as I love the quote, the quoter just couldn't be more wrong because this mustard cardigan is, in fact, not silly at all.  It is pretty and autumnal and goes so beautifully with navy and brown.  And I have so many more ideas for this mustard colored cardigan.  She will be making several repeat appearances.
But in this outfit I feel like a dainty, delicate little leaf fluttering off a tree.
And in fall, isn't that just the perfect feeling to get from your outfit?

Grease is the Word

{tee: forever21  //  hoodie: kohls  //  jacket: target  //  vintage kerchief: gramma's  //  jeans: gap  //  boots: old navy  //  necklace: UO, gifted  //  earrings: handmade}

I can't help but feel a bit "Sandra D." in this outfit.  You know, the Sandra D. at the end of the movie who turns all bad ass greaser chick to impress her beloved Danny.  I always wondered how such a sexist theme wormed its way into the movie at the end.  But chauvinistic ideals aside, I feel like a pink lady in this outfit.  I'm even related to a beauty school dropout.
